Thanks irir123 for posting this!
Been completely hooked to the compilation albums ‘solla solla’ and ‘fire star’ for the past few days (nandri v_sji, wizzman).
What a daring, varied and absurd assortment of songs! It’s one thing to take immensely popular numbers, package as an album and pass it off as ‘hits’; the motive being, quite apparently, only commercial. Picking songs that aren’t well-known (some, even among Raaja fans, I’ll bet) based on the musicality of each song, revving up the sound quality to delicious levels and cutting an album – now, that’s wholesome dedication! Redefining awesomeness!
‘Solla solla’ is a live instruments arusuvai virundhu.. Guitars (electric, acoustic), bass, drums, trumpets, flute, tribal drums and more; wicked concoction of all this with the man’s classy tunes. Dheiveega malam! You-gotta-hear-it-to-believe-it brilliance! :green green words:
‘Fire star’, on the other hand, is freaky, funky exploration of synth; early expeditions of the man in this territory I imagine. One can sense a degree of crudeness, a lack of ‘refinement and distillation’ in the songs and sounds; but in some strange way, that’s what works for the album. Kitsch - exactly how the company is marketing it.
I’ll bet my buck that there’s a theevira raaja rasigan (and someone with a fine taste of music) at the core of this ‘underground group’. Enquiry commission pOdunga pa! Here’s someone who can be the perfect caretaker of the Man’s priceless creations of art. :reverence:
^Fire Star is a different beast..The work they have done on Pala Raathiri track ..I have traversed through its sonic transformation from rm to this one..unbelievable work on the bass around 56sec.. vaaipillamai..buy/steal a good IEM to feel the difference ;-)

I tumbled down on IR-Kamal composing session of this song , have been listening to the composition back to back...
WOW!
Kamal sir,
இசையில் நாங்கள் தெய்வத்தை காண்கிறோம்!
Yes KV and wizzy. I am totally in shock how in first place they picked up these rare gems instead of the popular ones and second, how did they achieve this much perfection in quality. Through them, we come to hear all these nuances which we have never heard. Every composition takes us to new world, but I have to tell this one, second#, Rani Mangamma by Mano is brilliant as ever. Very freaky!
V_S,
Can you please point me to the direction of the compilation, these guys are talking about?
sorry, enga erukku link?
thanks V_S.

I don't think it's a 'gem'. But a song sung by IR I like a lot and find myself revisiting often these days,
kaNNiyila sikkAdhaiyyA kaanangkuruvi http://thiraipaadal.com/tpplayer.asp...973%27&lang=en
VS, Kangalin Vaarthaigal songs were released by hmv or just changed as after/before saregama. the quality of recording on the cds/cassets were worst to the core, still whenever I hear the songs..I cannot digest that. since the kannada version has better quality and singers :) (just because of SPB) nowadays I am staying with it.

VS, recent time..i m listing this song frequently as the lyric completely abt sittu kuruvi and they way IR rending, I liked but did not noticed the beauties mentioned by you. whats the song came 90'S?
Moreover I thought since the songs are available in indian cinema, we are getting lot of emotions and genre in songs when compare to other part of the world.
Watched Sainthaadamma Sainthaadu movie yesterday.
The song 'Nenjukkul Poomanjam...' is not a part of the movie. Can somebody clarify whether this song belongs to this movie or some other movie.
Non - Ilaiyaraaja song
Rishton Ki Khusboo from Swami (2007) I would easily pass this off by Raaja Saab if I didn't see the credits and I assume all fans won't be disappointed
Absolutely true! Especially we Indians are truly gifted to have ears to listen and appreciate every music around the world, which I hardly find that in other countries. That's the reason music directors are finding way difficult to satisfy we listeners. Glad you asked about the 90's composition. I found KaNNu pada pOguthaiya from Chinna Gounder is very close to this song.
dheemi dheemi (shivA 2006)
What a song!
One has to listen to this number immdiately after listening some 20 "regular" hindi hits to feel like 'wow, what a difference' :-)
"Innisai mazhai" Songs, listening in Original ACD, wow thalaivar Adichi Dhool Kelapi Irukaar, Variety of music and Instruments, this album is totally unrecognized GEM.
Oh paapa laali, Kaaviyam paadava, Oh priya... No words to describe.. only
Idhayathai thirudathe / Geethanajali is sure one of the Top 10 albums of IR sir...
Dubbing padam naalum, tamil paadal maathiriye irukkum.. only mani movies fossible.. :)
The sound is so close to "enna solli paaduvadho" which is also one of my alltime fave.
Here the tune is taken to a very addictive level by isai rasaayana vallunar Mr.Raasappu.
'What an alluring song.....seductive singing..simply intoxicating preludes & interludes...

Listening to 'Angel Angel' and 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' here. 'Angel Angel' is a song to die for. Sort of the song which anyone would want to sing to his/her Angel.

Revisited some segments of MMKR yesterday..
The scene where Crazy venkatesh and ponnambalam follow madhan and then get diverted to follow Kaameshwaran - Kamal and crazy in full form is a given.
But a close scrutiny of music opens up a revelation!!
While the "madhan follow" scene is in progress - the music is all jazz and brass - cool..
Then Kaameshwaran crosses path - small shift in the BGM as the followers contemplate- then they begin following kaameshwaran - now the music is all funky carnatic - flute violin and mridhangam full flow - ending in the signal - the "closing theermaanam" - is a carnatic delight with morsing joining in...
It appears as if Kamal and Raaja had a script level discussion on how this scene is going to be edited - but it is not the case - Raaja simply scored for the completed and edited scene and it came out extempore - Just like that and that is pure genius all abound - from Kamal writing it, crazy dialoguing it up and Raaja completing it.. Immense delight.
nice, Jai!
tonight will pull my MMKR - DVD and enjoy the scene!

Sitting at office, immersed in work, with my headphones on. 'Solla solla' starts playing. The bassline kicks in. Automatically, even before I can realize, I swear, and it's so loud that it draws stares from the adjacent cubes. NSFW!
All known songs but when heard in some random mixed order, it creates an exciting effect which could not be described!
