Box Office Collection: Vijay's 'Kaththi' Nearing 50 Days
Vijay's "Kaththi" is nearing the 50-day theatrical run at the box office. The film, which hit screens on 22 October, has emerged as the highest grossing Tamil film of the year so far. The film took grand openings upon its release and fared well not just in India, but also in overseas markets.
It surpassed the ₹100 crore mark in just 12 days and became the second Vijay starrer to achieve the feat after 2012-blockbuster flick "Thuppakki."
Even after completing 40 days, "Kaththi" has continued to get screened in a few theatres. The film is inching towards the 50-day mark, which will be attained next week. It has reportedly minted ₹7.78 crore at the end of fifth weekend in Chennai.

Happy New Year', 'Kaththi' Rule The Market in Nov
Bollywood movie "Happy New Year" and Tamil movie "Kaththi" have emerged as the biggest hits at Indian box office in November. Both the films were released for Dilwali and managed to make good business at collection centres in the last month.
Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Happy New Year" was released in a record number of screens on October 24. After making ₹ 157+ crores in the opening week, the Hindi film crossed ₹ 200-crore mark in November.
Whereas "Kaththi" was released on 22 October and made earth-shattering business in South India and in some foreign circuits in the opening week. The Tamil movie managed to continue its dream run at collection centres and pulled audience to theatres in November too. Indeed, it has become one of the highest-grossing films of Vijay's career.
While "Happy New Year" has made ₹203 crores in India and has grossed ₹ 380 crores worldwide, "Kaththi" has collected more than ₹ 115 crores worldwide.
Shah Rukh Khan starrer movie is the second biggest hit in India after "Kick", which made ₹233 crores at the domestic box office. The film's performance could have been a lot better after the first week. The business steadily dropped in the second week. However, its performance at international circuits has been better than the Salman Khan starrer flick.
On the other end, "Kaththi" has become the biggest hit of 2014 and its performance at domestic and international circuits have been highly impressive.
"Happy New Year" is directed by Farah Khan and it has Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah in the key roles. It is a musical heist comedy film produced by Red Chillies.
"Kaththi" is an action-thriller directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Lyca Productions. Vijay, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Samantha are in the key roles.
