Extremely positive talk in twitter. Seems like Manirathnam is back to the days of yore... Can't wait to watch...
Just back from premier show.. I thoroughly enjoyed.. First is racy and crisp.. second half little bit dragging but good.. Mani is back.. This is his comfort zone and he played well.. Music is good.. dulquer is good choice.. personally I don't like Nithya menon but not much complaint about her..
Still Mani didn't loose his audience.. considerable crowd for the premier show..
Overall..completely statisfied...

O Kadhal Kanmani
Who can resist a good love story, and this one wins you over with its simple charm, immensely likeable characters, and the intrinsic humour in the writing. The real magic of this film lies in the performances of its two main leads Dulquer and Nitya.
There is so much of positivity, feel good factor and poignant moments in Mani Ratnam's O Kadhal Kanmani that the exhilarating energy begins with the title card itself, when we are introduced to the protagonist Aadhi Varadarajan (Dulquer Salmaan), who is an avid gamer. The super cool animated Mumbai city along with AR Rahman's alluring music elevates the energy to the different level.
Dulquer gets down from a train and sees the cherubic Tara (Nithya Menon) who is threatening a guy that she is going to jump in front of a train. Soon in their second meeting happens and they talk about their disbelief in the system of marriage. For them it is all about falling in love and start a live-in relationship and Mani makes this entire situation extremely believable.
There is something cute and adorable about Aadhi and Tara thanks to the comfortable chemistry that they share which translates well on screen. They just don't sizzle, but they definitely stir up some heat. Excellent characterization! The dialogues are gems. Sample- When she hesitates to be the pillion, he immediately says Na Venna un koodavey Thallitu nadanthu Varatuma which puts a big grin on our face and in the other scene both of them decide to stay in a lodge, she asks Unaala nalla paiyen ah iruka mudiyuma' and he says 'mudiyum aana un kooda kashtam, the entire film is filled with such cute moments which is the biggest strength.
If Mani captures the young urban romance with Aadhi and Tara, the traditional aesthetic romance is conveyed through the Ganapathy (Prakash Raj) and Bhavani (Leela Samson) pair, the latter is affected by Alzheimer disease. The way Tara and Aadhi accept the traditional married life of Bhavani and Ganapathy is another poignant moment in the film, and by the way watch out for the cute climax!
Dulquer is good looking and if that's not a bonus, his screen presence and natural performance and above all his likable face lifts the film. He is definitely someone to watch out for in Tamil. Uninhibited and spontaneous, Nitya Menen is the soul of this picture, its biggest strength, as she brings alive her character with not just those expressive eyes and infectious simile, but with the kind of candor that actors seldom invest in their work. Prakash Raj puts in all his experience as the old caring husband while Leela Samson attracts us with her innocent yet charming act.
The premise is simple and to Mani Ratnam's credit, he keeps the story focused and spares us of subplots. Technically OK Kanmani is superior as both AR Rahman and PC Sreeram have given their career best work for Mani Ratnam as the master craftsman himself is in tremendous form. Compared to the mediocre cinema we have been subjected to lately, O Kadhal Kanmani is definitely above a notch. It is a film bursting with the kind of lovely little moments that'll bring a smile on your face.
Verdict: Go for it!

O Kadhal Kanmani: Mani Ratnam has regained his touch
http://www.thehindu.com/multimedia/d...k_2377478f.jpg
After the forgettable Kadal, journalists had begun writing obituary on Mani Ratnam's film career. With O Kadhal Kanmani, Mani Ratnam has made sure there is no need for it.
The comeback is sweet. Like an ageing boxer, whose ego has been hurt, he has delivered a knock out. Most importantly, he is looking fresh again. After a long time, the filmmaker has made a film for Tamil audiences (let's forget Kadal for now, please?), without worrying about sketching characters that are relevant to pan-Indian audiences. In the process, he has made a film that will not only resonate with audiences across India but has also truly retained its Tamil flavour.
It is a story that features two couples: one, young, who seem to have escaped their conservative dens are living far away from home and two, older couple, who seem to have preserved their values even while living in a cultural melting pot like Mumbai.
O Kadhal Kanmani
Director: Mani Ratnam
Plot: A couple try out a live-in relative
Music composer: A.R. Rahman
Bottom Line: Mani Ratnam is back in form
For most Tamil audiences, Mumbai has been a city where Hindu-Muslim riots happens frequently; a city which is still under the grips of the underworld; a city that is constantly under a threat of terrorism and a city that houses the richest of the rich. In O Kadhal Kanmani, however, Mumbai is featured as a city that brings the couple together. The love story has been beautifully shot.
In a city where the world 'overcrowded' loses its meaning, the intimacy between the couple has been captured, despite the city being known for his over population. While the film doesn't feature Mumbai's landscape extensively, its spirit permeates the film.
In a way, the film explores, in a light hearted way, what modern India thinks about the all-compromising life-event called marriage. The plot revolves around a young couple, Adi (Dulquer Salmaan) and Thara (Nithya Menen), who are both independent, free spirited and uncompromising when it comes to their career goals.
They meet at a friend's wedding, they go for coffee, they date, and decide to live-in together.
Can such a couple settle down into a routine called a marriage?
Their story unfolds in tandem with that of Ganapathy (Prakash Raj) and Bhavani (Leela Samson), an ageing couple — one of whom is a former superstar Carnatic musician suffering from Alzheimer's, and are running a PG accommodation where the young couple live. By placing both these love stories in context, the film explores what is worth keeping from the past and what is not.
The funny moments in the film arrive when the narrative turns satirical: where conservative values are seen through the modern progressive lens, redrawing terms of engagement.
The theme of 'new' ideas transforming the old (and vice versa) runs through the film. The narrative seems to suggest that the problem does not lie, in fact it never has, with the institution of marriage but with its terms: it is acceptable as long as it is not about making many compromises on all sides but about ensuring personal freedom and preserving ambitions.
It is one of those films in which everything seems to have come together: music, acting, editing and the cinematography.
The biggest take away from the film is that Mani Ratnam, a filmmaker who was compared to an ageing boxer, has regained his sting. That's good news.
Movie review 'O Kadhal Kanmani': Mani Ratnam is back with a bang
Director: Mani Ratnam
Cast: Dulquer Salman, Nithya Menen, Prakash Raj
Rating: 3 stars
After a couple of lackluster flicks, master story teller Mani Ratnam is back with a bang with a feel good complete romantic movie O Kadhal Kanmani.
OKK narrates the story of two lovely individuals who believe in live-in relationship. Adhi (Dulquer Salman), a computer game developer who relocates to Mumbai chances upon Thara (Nithya Menen) at a strange situation as soon he lands in the railway station. Adhi stays with his brother’s ex-colleague Ganapathy (Prakash Raj) whose wife Bhavani (Leela Samson) is a former ace carnatic singer now an Alzheimer patient. Thara an architect by profession lives in a ladies hostel and is awaiting admission from a Paris university for higher studies.
Adhi subsequently meets Thara at his friend Ananya’s (TV anchor Ramya) wedding at a church. They exchange phone numbers and soon become close friends as they share similar thoughts. Soon they realize that they are in love. Since both don’t believe in the institution of marriage and are career driven, they decide to ‘live together’ without any commitments. Thara moves to Adhi’s room although initially Ganapathy does not approve of their idea. All goes hunky dory until Adhi gets selected to go to US on deputation. A stage comes when things start to change and they feel that there’s something more to their relationship than a casual affair. Now they have to take a vital decision. Whether they enter wedlock or part ways forms the rest.
The entire movie revolves around the two lead actors Dulquer and Nithya and both have delivered a solid performance. And for a film shot in live sound technology, Dulquer’s dialogue delivery is perfect and his Tamil diction is also good. Nithya with her subtle expressions breezes through her character of a highly independent girl who knows what exactly she wants in her life. Prakash Raj has done a fabulous job and Leela Sampson, ace dancer and former director of Kalakshetra in a new avatar of an actress is impressive. It is her character which actually takes forward the story. Newcomers Ramya, Buddy Prabhu are also there. While the first half moves a bit slow, post interval the movie picks up momentum as it takes a serious direction. Mani Ratnam’s simple yet powerful dialogues are a major plus which would go well with today’s youth.Though there’s no separate humor track, it is inbuilt in Mani’s writings. One gets the feeling that most of the scenes end abruptly without any finish or is it a deliberate style that’s being adopted by Mani. When it comes to the collaboration of AR Rahman and Mani, it is bound to create the musical magic. Here also ARR’s songs which are already chartbusters elevate the entire proceedings. PC Sreeram’s cinematography should be lauded for capturing the right mood of the film with his color and lighting compositions.
There are a few overall glitches, nevertheless, watch OKK for its fresh approach and feel-good entertainment it offers.
Pathachu :) first of all, the movie has nothing to do with rape/3rd person etc..
Really liked the film..Light, fun, touching and most importantly it makes you feel good when you leave the theatre..Mani is 'at home' when it comes to romance and dialogues..both Dulquer and nithya were superb and prakash raj and leela samson were equally awesome too..OKK cant be compared to Alaipayuthey as both are different..PC is as usual superb only when he works with Mani..i guess all cinematographers should thank MAni for their work..I think its Mani whos guiding all the cinematographers..ARR's bgm not that impressive except for the climax..songs were superrr..
watching again today..happy for mani saar.. why the hell the movie was rated 18+? :banghead:

Mani sir sets a trend again surely with O kaadhal kanmani..I myself feel like writing a love story. Respect, sir...
In conversation with Mani Ratnam
http://ibnlive.in.com/videos/540485/...ni-ratnam.html
Mani is at complete ease doing a upper middle class urban love story. He did it in Mouna Raagam (1986), Alaipayuthey (2000) and now repeats it in O Kadhal Kanmani (2015). Though the teaser and trailer reminded me of Alaipayuthey, Mani made it clear that he wanted the audience to expect a similar platform and nothing more. Except being two films dealing with relationships and having the same technical crew, the films share nothing.
OKK is about the relationship between two commitment phobic individuals Aadhi and Tara who hate marriage because of different reasons. The performances of the leads are a scream and Nithya stands out of the two. They both carry the film on their shoulders and are ably supported by Prakashraj and Leela Samson. Most scenes involve only these four but not a single moment you are bored. They make you laugh, cry and fall in love. [emoji122]
When Mani is in his elements, it becomes easy for his technical team to do the formalities. ARR and PC Sreeram have ensured that they hit the bull's eye to make the film a complete one. The score is grand and the visuals are out of the world. Not many times you see the crowd waiting after the movie is over to listen to the song which is played during the end credits. It happened yesterday when people were still on the seats listening to Mental Manadhil. What more do you need as a Rahmaniac? And like any Mani film, there are no extravagant foreign locales. But Mumbai is made to look like one.
The movie has some glitches like the 'buddies' who were annoying, at least for me. Also the dialogue delivery of both the leads could've been slightly better. For all the effort they've put in their acting and being natural, they could've concentrated with their dubbing too. Some good dialogues sounded artificial because of their non Tamil background.
After very ordinary outings with Raavanan and Kadal, Mani is back to what he does best. Hope he sticks to it and makes many more such wonderful movies. Its all we need as his fans.
#OKKanmani is #CSK playing its game in Chepauk. You will more often than not come out of the stadium laughing.
