Stan, Not sure whether you noticed this or not. Sanga has already reached 1000 runs in ODI in 2012.

Checked Sangakkara's record after your post. Yes, he has crossed 1000 runs @ an very good avg of 45. But he has taken 24 Inns to cross 1000 whereas Kohli's feat is astounding. I Checked India's fixtures in cricinfo and India don't play more ODI's to allow kohli to achieve this feat which is quite a shame.

No ODI's against NZ.
ODI's against England are only in next year.
2 Tests against NZ and 4 against Eng.
