A write-up on Sri Raama Raajyam's title score by V_S in his blog 'Maestro's world':

1000 KG photo Cake at express avenue featuring 1000 photos of Ilayaraaja
The entire money from the selling of the cake will be given to EKAM FOUNDATION

I sincerely hope what they claim is true: That the gigantic cake will have the album covers of all of IR's movies. That itself is a massive project - to collate all the album covers from Annakkili to NEPV.
In that case, it would be great if the scans of these 950+ albums can be published somewhere online.
Or would it be just a general collage of IR photos coupled with some actor/ actress photos from the past 3 decades?
Wonderful writeup @V_S. SRR Title score is easily one of the best Raja has ever come up with. Especially from 1:23... Ultimate goosebumpy stuff! I haven't noticed the correlation between the scenes and the score till I read your article. I just played the DVD again. That score makes all the more sense now. Amazing what goes on in Raja's mind. A true genius!
only 40k? thats nothing really for the fan base he has. others just downloading for free and praising Raja sir for his efforts? are we not obligated to buy the originals to support him to do more and more of these...
OR is this 40k the upper limit for CD sales these days?
Producer Manchu Lakshmi on "Gundello Godari":
“The movie has come out really well and I must thank Ilayaraja garu for a terrific soundtrack. The audio launch will take place in two weeks time and the movie will release in the first week of November”, she said.
^ And that without considering the Flipkart's online Flyte & iTunes Sales!
A note about Flipkart, it sold the recent JK Rowling's 'The Casual Vacancy' 15K while other online site Indiaplaza.in sold 3K! Just pointing this comparison to show the reach of Flipkart!
thanks sakala and rajasaranam. Can't believe things have changed so much. When I was in school in the late 80s, we use to hear and wow about the oru latsham cassette sales for Raja sir's movies.

Film has 6 songs. 5 of them have similar tunes in Telugu and Tamil. Producer Lakshmi says Raja has not taken any remuneration so far.
Ajanta producer putting too much scene it seems!

Also I guess NEPV wave is kind of helping many producers like this, to release the IR movies lying in can! This one, Padithurai... Kavuthamu, unakku cut out paalaabishegam ellaam pathaathuyaa, Straight aa Kovil thaan
Thank you lmkbabu.

Is this celebrity w/o our hubber aakarsh?
The reason for posting it here :Quote:
“I must give a lot of credit to my husband Kamal Aakarsh for that. He was the one who encouraged me to quit my job and take up my passion seriously. Initially, my target was to make at least half of what I was earning at my previous company. It’s been two months since I quit my job and already, I am earning more than what I used to,” she smiles.
Interestingly, she met Kamal at one of her jewellery exhibitions. “He bought a necklace. That was his investment and I was the return on investment,” she laughs.

Apart from Hearth Treasures, she also runs a music school named Raageshree in Secunderabad. “I have learnt Hindustani Classical Music for 15 years. I began this school in July and I teach students both offline and on skype. We have an active Facebook group where, every Wednesday, we discuss a lot about raagas in filmy music. I really want to connect with more people who are interested in Hindustani Classical Music,” she says.
Not surprisingly, her favourite music director is Ilayaraja. “He stills follows the old fashioned way of composing music and he doesn’t have to compete with anyone. Ilayaraja has been one of the biggest inspirations in my life. I also like Hindi music directors from the 50s and 60s who created so many masterpieces,” she adds.

Singer Ramya NSK was today's guest in Surya Vanakkam . Jolly show .She was quite a sport in handling, mostly silly questions .
1) She has sung 3-4 songs after NEPV with Raaja . One of them duet with Yuvan
2) When the anchor asked about yuvan's off key singing , she told that eclipsing that,t the feeling he brings to the song is what she likes about yuvan. She quoted Pogathey song as the example
3) Of course , her favourite composer is our god :)
4) She told that she sung two different versions of Satru munbu -one Indian way and another WCM way . Raaja ( in good spirit , nakkal ) told that both sound the same . " Romba damaga aaki pochu" was her comment and laughed . This is because she is a trained WCM singer .
Ilayaraaja in Kumudam answers: Why he stopped working with K Balachandar and also about maniratnam
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...4442301&type=1
http://kamsnet.wordpress.com/2012/10...-told-by-ir-2/
Why I came away from KB by Ilayaraaja in Kumudam today
There was a film industry strike when we had to do the rerecording of the movie Pudu Pudu Arthangal. The movie was directed
by K Balachandar. I was in Mumbai for the recording of the movie Shiva. Ananthu and Natarajan came to mumbai and met me.
They said Sir the release date for the movie has been fixed. The strike in chennai is still on and you too cannot come from
mumbai. We also dont have the time to wait for you and record and hence we will take the track and then use it in the
movie. Then Ilayaraaja told them so you want only name "Ilayaraaja" and dont want my music. You want to use my name
Ilayaraaja only for commercial purposes and the director KB trty to this.So IR said please do what ever you want.
After some years Kavithalaya again approached Raja for music and then raja thought for these people only the name is
important and not my music hence why should i do music for them?
Then when Kavithalaya did a movie for Rajinikanth, rajnikanth came to me. Neither Rajni asked me why you are not making
music for KB's films nor i did not tell him. Rajni just asked me to do music for his movie. KB Himself could have told the
matter to rajni and then sent him but he did not. At least rajni could have asked KB to talk to me but nothing happened.
Hence i said i cannot do music for the movie
this is the reason.
aakarsh,
:-)
Look how alert we hubbers are - all that's needed is rAsA's name in some article / report and that gets posted here - sometimes even ones in Hungarian language :-)
kamesh - something abt the KB episode does not make sense! if IR was bound by the contract for Kavithalaya films, shdnt he have completed the re-recording for PPA on-time for the film's release ? or did KB make a sudden decision to release the movie before its original scheduled release and had to request IR to do the BGM amidst his busy schedule ? and what is this abt IR interpreting the whole thing the way he did "they dont need my music only my name" - of course they wanted his music too, thats why KB sent anandhu and co to request for the BGM to be done, right ? i think its just lack of communication and misunderstanding on both sides!
 develop pride in what you do!
Raja has pride in what he does!
He makes a difference in people's state of well being with his music, that makes him an important person for some of us!
top the chart, number of Cd sales, big banner's aasthana isai amaippalar etc.. are secondary to him!
appadi illai (I think) - they came to seek permission to "use old tracks" or something like that.
(It says release date fixed but strike in Chennai, so how can IR do music for them, unless they were willing to pay higher expenses for Mumbai / Hungary / London recording).
what I understand is that K.B has taken his songs for puthu puthu arthangal!
there was a strike during rerecording. Raja supposed to do rerecording for the movie.
they didn't want to wait since the movie release date was fixed.
He did not obstruct their project, ok...eduthuttu po!
but he kept their attitude in his mind, conducted himself in future projects without compromising his values!
what about the bgm?
I am checking my DVD- PYRAMID DVD , it says ISAI ILAYARAJA!
SO..RAJA did not do bgm for the movie aa?
IR did not do the RR for Puthu puthu Arthangal.
KB filled the BGM from his earlier films..
Punnagai Mannan's Chaplin BGM was used for Janakaraj's scenes.
Especially the climax BGM of PPA was used from Ek Duje Keliye ( Which is not by IR at all ).
Appadiyaa!
I was planning to see the movie tonight!
if what I understood from that passage is correct means, Raja taught them a lesson!
Raja has become an icon for couple generations with substance!
what where K.B etc.. thinking?
Singer Devan Ekaambaram is the guest on innisai mazhai (kalaignar tv) for this week. He's been singing many Raaja songs (while playing on an acoustic guitar). The portions that I caught on TV today had pani vizhum malarvanam and en iniya pon nilaavE. Speaking about the former he said that Naattai is generally a very 'bluesy' scale and that Raaja has used this very well in this song, keeping the chords in the blues style while the veenai and flute operate almost purely in carnatic. About the latter, he explained how the song is loaded with so many different elements and how it straddles seamlessly between the minor and major scale chords and also spoke about how packed/dense the chord progression in this one is.
I don't think this program is uploaded/host by any websites these days; I still haven't found the Yugendran Vasudevan Menon episode (which featured the brilliant bass guitar explanation portion). If anyone here has recording option available with their TV cable service provider, please try getting this show tomorrow and day-after.
If I assume that this is true - I feel it's unfair to blame KB too much. I know they should've waited but still... They are in business. Atleast they asked him, that too twice. It's not that they dumped him without telling him. I get a feeling that its an impulsive decision that raaja took for a small issue. I mean, it really didn't require such a big decision. These kind of things happen everywhere right, in every profession and with already 400 films in his past, raaja should have, by then, known all such things out of experience and must have acted practically. That (mis)interpretation that they came only for his name and not for music seems farfetched. They came to him only, not anyone else! To clap, you need both hands. To patch up also! It looks like a silly oath taken in a bad mood!
My opinion strictly based on translation by kamesh!
+ 111
exactly! I was trying to convey the same - originally I had thought KB had used tracks to fill up PPA WITHOUT informing IR ! but it looks like IR was not even in chennai, and KB's team approached him in mumbai with a request to finish the BGM - perhaps, if they had initially asked IR to use his old tracks even without asking him to finish the BGM asap, then it was KB team's fault - OTOH, if they had persuaded IR to finish the BGM before a certain time limit and IR had asked for more time, and then, after some going back and forth, KB team decided to use his old tracks etc, then it was purely a business decision and nothing personal abt it!
aakarsh,
It doesn't tell the whole story of IR-KB break-up but only the specific PPA episode.
- IR was upset that they wanted to only use his name and not his fresh composition (creative artist, understandable)
- They used old tracks, fine - but why non-IR track? (Ek dujE kE liyE, as reported by raja_fan), this could have irritated him more. I think those days, even non-IR songs weren't that much allowed to be part of his movies (like passing references, as sung by a character etc)
- For the next movie, we don't know whether KB approached IR...that's not told here, so, it could be that KB was adamant as well
-IR claims here that only when KB's production house did a Rajinikanth movie, Rajini came to IR. (possibly aNNAmalai). Even this time, as claimed by IR, a) KB didn't approach IR directly as the producer, b) not even told Rajini the prior-friction but simply despatched him to beg IR
So, ego problem is not from IR only...
Also, it's very possible that IR treated KB movies as special (compared to some XYZ director movie where it would have been OK to use some "dubbing music").
We know for a fact how his scores were for the KB-directed movies.
Could have hurt him more...
