Sivaji MGR Rivalry - Week cover story
Text of the Letter sent by email to The Week magazine:
Dear Sir,
This refers to the article, "Sivaji Ganesan vs MGR", of your esteemed magazine, The Week, (dated 06.09.09), which has appeared in the following link: http://week.manoramaonline.com/cgi-b...mId=1073755753 &contentId=5905750
Mr. Asokamitran, has written about MGR Sivaji rivalry. Since I presume, they are his personal opinion, I dont wish to comment any think on that.
However, this has appeared in print in your magazine, which has wide reach all over and which I presume, would have an impact on the readers.
So, I not only differ, on a particular point, but also feel hurt, by the following words:
"Sivaji Ganesan mandrams resorted to unfair means to defame MGR and his films."
Can he explain what he means by unfair means? Or can he state what kind of means took place and can he narrate them in detail? Or can he substantiate his words? Since it is more than two generations, there is a possibility that the current generation can rely on these kind of words and decide accordingly on the reputation of the concerned.
All India Sivaji Ganesan Rasikar Mandrams were established to spread patriotism, national integration and ideologies of the great leaders were propagated through various activities. There was a group of office bearers appointed to administer the Fans Associations and this was established on All India basis for the first time for a Star from South India. Sivaji Rasikar Mandrams organised innumberable night schools and people were educated through these schools in those days. Independence Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanthi were celebrated with full patriotic fervour. This space would not be sufficient, if I go on telling various social service activities conducted by the Sivaji Ganesan Rasikar Mandrams. And no mandram had time to spare for those so-called unfair means as Mr. Asokaitran says. Was Asokamitran a member of any Sivaji Fans Association or was he actively witness to any unfair means?
THE WEEK HAS FOR QUITE A LONG, ESTABLISHED A REPUTATION FOR ITSELF AND I AM DEFINITELY SURE, IT WOULD NOT ALLOW SUCH WAYWARD COMMENTS LIKE THESE. THAT TOO WHEN THE DOYEN SIVAJI GANESAN'S 81ST BIRTH DAY IS NEARBY (October 1).
I REQUEST THE WEEK TO KINDLY SEE THAT THIS STATEMENT IS WITHDRAWN SINCE LAKS AND LAKS OF SIVAJI FANS ACROSS THE GLOBE WOULD DEFINITELY FEEL
HURT.
