Recently Vijay was present during Shankar's birthday party and this news in turn has lead to buzz that Shankar's next project will be with Vijay. After Nanban, Vijay has became a close friend to Shankar and even Shankar was invited for the Vijay films' success parties.
It is said that though Shankar is having Endhiran-2 in my mind, the project will be confirmed only after Rajini's Lingaa. If the plans for Rajini's film didn't work out, Shankar might do his next film with Vijay say the sources.

After the success of, 'Nanban' which is a remake of Aamir Khan's blockbuster '3 Idiots', Vijay has expressed his wish to be a part of typical Shankar brand magnum opus commercial movie multiple times in various TV interviews & Award ceremonies.
Shankar is currently busy with the post production works for 'Ai' and there were news that, he approached Rajini for 'Enthiran 2' but given the health condition of Superstar, the idea for Chitti's sequel has taken a back seat. Some went to claim that Ajith will be doing the sequel, but Shankar himself has denied the same on his page.
Meanwhile, Shankar has invited a very few from the industry for his birthday party & Vijay is one among them. This has sparked fresh rumors and few claim it is true that Shankar has picked Vijay for a stylish commercial entertainer. Don't know the authenticity of this news but heard from a Cine industry insider that the Shankar-Vijay combo was always on cards after the whole Nanban casting episode and AGS was to produce. In fact AGS had paid an advance to Shankar long back but Shankar went on to do Ai under Aascar.
No one makes dancing look so elegant and stylish among current actors like Vijay.

I don't know if we should beleive these rumours just on the basis of the fact that he was one of the few invitees for Shankar's birthday. Even Kamal invites him every year on his birthday. However, if it happens, it will be one hell of a project...let's hope for the best.
I think, Vijay's 'I am Waiting' in Vijay awars to shankar can be an indication that the project is very much in the talks.
