Great news from Madurai.

Any plan to visit Madurai for Pparavai? I wish I were there with fans for Sunday evening show......... Good old days in Madurai!!

Few memorable performances from NT, as Gopal, in this classic:

-- Gopal's introduction and song: Unnai Ontru Ketpen
-- Gopal's seductive looks and asks Saroja Devi to sing again
-- Gopal's ultra rich modern look in Singapore club when he meets Soukar first time. His cigar smoking style must have spoiled many in those days!!??
-- Gopal - MRRadha - Soukar confrontation
-- Gopal's classic Enge Nimmadhi song - wonderful depiction of a man wanders between fear and love in life
-- Gopal's performance in climax and finally ends the movie in his own unbeatable way revealing that he is still looking for love; at the end, you surely feel pity for him............

I always feel that PP is one of the best from MSV-TKR for NT movies. Sweet and evergreen songs!!

On the negative side, I never liked Saroja devi's performance in this movie - especially, her baby-like talk; it slows down the pace of the movie.

Overall, an evergreen classic from NT.

Honestly, this time period is not great and he should have avoided these movies. Wondering how did LDriver Rajakannu managed to run more than that of Eluthatha Sattangal???

Considering that most of these movies were starred by both NT and Prabhu, did NT try to indirectly help Prabhu to establish in tamil films? Nothing against Prabhu, but as a well wisher of NT and his movies, it is just an emotional feeling.

Anyway, it is a fact that these films damaged some of NT's fame. His rival fans got a ground to bring in this period while discussing records.

This is 100% true. NT looks fabulous with a great hair style, simple dhoti and cotton shirt. I am sure this is the only movie in modern tamil films in which a super hero appeared in simple dhoti and shirt and still managed to look great. I guess the best in savale samali is its strong dialogues and the wonderful delivery from NT. All in all Saveli samali - A well etched and very restrained performance from NT.

Out of his 40+ years in films, I guess NT looked best during Savale Samali times. Question to NT veterans: How did he manage to look so good during these years? How sweet it would have been if he had maintained the same look in 80s and 90s..... Imagine Sumathi en Sundari look in 80s and 90s - man, it just feels wonderful!!!

நீங்கள் சொல்வது அனைத்தும் உண்மையே. நீங்கள் குறிப்பிடும் அந்த கால கட்டம் நடிகர்திலகத்தின் அழகிய தோற்றம் கொண்ட காலம் எனலாம்.

அதாவது 'ஊட்டிவரை உறவு' துவங்கி 'அண்ணன் ஒரு கோயில்' வரையான காலம். (தியாகத்திலிருந்து மீண்டும் அவரது உருவம், அறுபதுகளின் துவக்கத்தில் இருந்த நிலை நோக்கி திரும்பியது). ஆனால் அறுபதுகளின் துவக்கத்தில் அந்த தோற்றத்தை தனது அலாதியான பெர்ஃபாமன்ஸைக்கொண்டு வென்று தள்ளினார். (குறிப்பாக 'பீம்பாய்' படங்கள்). ஆனால் தியாகத்துக்குப்பின் அவருக்கு அமைந்த ரோல்கள், அவரது உருவத்தோற்றத்தை மறக்கடிக்கப்போதுமானவையாக அமையவில்லை என்பதும் சற்று ஸ்டீரியோ டைப்பில் அமைந்தன என்பதும் உண்மை. அப்படியும் கூட அவர் ஏராளமான வெற்றிப்படங்களைக்கொடுத்தார். (உங்களது அடுத்த பதிவுக்கான பதிலில் சொல்லியிருக்கிறேன்). தமிழ்ப்பட வெற்றி வரலாற்றை திருப்பிப்போட்ட 'திரிசூலம்' போன்றவை வந்ததும் அந்தக்கால கட்டத்தில்தான்.

நான் எப்போதுமே சொல்லி சொல்லி மாய்வதுபோல 67 முதல் 77 வரையிலான அவரது தோற்றம் கண்ணில் ஒற்றிக்கொள்ளும்படியான அழகு. அப்போது வந்த அவரது படங்களுக்கு அவரது அந்த ஒல்லியான அழகு தோற்றம் ரொம்பவே பொருந்தியது. அந்நேரத்தில்தான் பாலாஜி படங்களில் துவங்கி எல்லா படங்களிலும் ஒன்றிரண்டு சண்டைக்காட்சிகளாவது இடம்பெறத்துவங்கி, படங்களுக்கு சிறப்பு சேர்த்தன. அவற்றில் ஒன்றுதான் நீங்கள் குறிப்பிட்ட 'சவாலே சமாளி'. அந்நேரத்தில் வந்த அவரது படங்களுக்கும் ஏற்றிருந்த ரோல்களுக்கும் அவரது ஸ்லிம் உடலமைப்பு எப்படி ஒத்துழைத்தது என்பது படங்களின் வரிசையைப் பார்த்தாலே தெரியும்.

சமீபத்தில் முரளியண்ணா ஆய்வு செய்த 'திருடன்' படமும் அவற்றில் ஒன்று. 'தங்கச்சுரங்கம்' சி.பி.ஐ ஆபீசரும் அவர்களில் ஒருவர். 'எங்கமாமா'வின் சொர்க்கம் பக்கத்தில் பாடலில், அழகிய நிர்மலாவோடு இவரும் சரிக்கு சரி ஒல்லியாக இருந்ததால்தானே அப்பாடல் காட்சி இன்னும் கண்களைக்கவர்கிறது. உள்ளே பனியன் போடாமல் வெறுமனே ஸ்பன் ஷர்ட்டோடு தெய்வமகனில் 'காதல் மலர்க்கூட்டம் ஒன்று' பாட முடிந்ததும் அந்த ஒல்லி உடம்பு தந்த போனஸ். புரட்சிக்காரன் 'பாரத்'துக்கு (சிவந்த மண்) தன் சாகசங்களில் ஒத்துழைத்தது அந்த ஸ்லிம் பாடிதான் என்றால் மறுப்பதற்கில்லை. நீங்கள் குறிப்பிட்ட சுமதி என் சுந்தரி நம் நெஞ்சங்களில் ஸ்டிக்கராக ஒட்டிக்கொள்ள உறுதுணையாக இருந்ததும் அந்த அழகு உடம்பு அல்லவா? (பொட்டுவைத்த முகமோ, ஒருதரம் ஒரேதரம் பாடல் காட்சிகளை இன்றைக்கும் கண்ணில் ஒற்றிக்கொள்கிறோமே). அந்த சிக்கென்ற தோற்றத்தில்னால் அல்லவா 'பொன்மகள் வந்தாள்' பாடும்போது விஜயலலிதாவை விட ஒல்லியாகத் தோற்றமளித்தார். இவற்றுக்கெல்லாம் சிகரம் வைத்தாற்போல அமைந்த துப்பறியும் 'ராஜா'.

ஜோவியல் படங்களில்தான் என்றில்லை. சீரியஸ் ரோல்களுக்கும் அந்த மெலிந்த உடல் ரொம்பவே பாந்தமாக பொருந்தியது. பேண்ட்டுக்குள் ஷர்ட் இன் பண்ணி சட்டைக்கைகளை முழங்கைகளுக்கு மேல மடித்து விட்டபடி 'அந்தநாள் ஞாபகம் நெஞ்சிலே வந்ததே நண்பனே' பாடிய அதே தோற்றத்தில் இருந்த அழகுக்கு மாறாக, ஏழு ஆண்டுகளுக்குமுன் அவர் நடித்த 'நான் பேச நினைப்பதெல்லாம்' பாடல் காட்சியில் உடல் கண்களை உறுத்தியது என்பதை மறுப்பதற்கில்லை.

'திருமால் பெருமை' திருமங்கை ஆழ்வாரும், சிக்கல் ஷண்முக சுந்தரமும், நாடக நடிகர் ரங்கதுரையும் சிறப்பான நடிப்போடு சேர்ந்து அழகிய தோற்றத்திலும் நம்மைக்கவர்ந்தனர் என்றால் அதற்கு முழுக்காரணம் அவரது அன்றைய அழகிய தோற்றம் என்பது உண்மைதானே. சுருக்கமாகச்சொன்னால், கட்டபொம்மனுக்குப்பின் காணாமல் போன அழகிய தோற்றம் திரும்பக்கிடைத்தது 67-ல் தான். இடைப்பட்ட காலத்தில் தன் அபார நடிப்புத் திறமையால் அந்தக்குறைபாடு தெரியாமல் ஊதித்தள்ளினார் (உதாரணம் நீங்களே இப்போது குறிப்பிட்ட 'எங்கே நிம்மதி' பாடல் காட்சி).

அனைத்துக்கும் மேலாக 'ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட வார்த்தையால்' அவரது தோற்றத்தை கிண்டல் செய்து வந்தோரின் வாய்களுக்கு 'ரிவிட்' அடிக்கப்பட்டிருந்ததும் அந்த 'பிளாட்டினம் பீரியடில்'தான்.

PUDHIYA PARAVAI.............. the name itself is enough to bring joy in the faces of NT fans.what a lucky the madurai fans are.
I watched it for the 4th time in bangalore kino theatre in 1992 with all those amarkkalams and aarpaattams.all hell broke loose during enge nimmathi song on sunday night show and the theatre management stopped the movie without the climax scene as some fans burst the crackers inside the premesis during that song.I'm just thinking the way madurai fans will receive that song coming sunday night show.

BTW where is raghavendran sir ?

Undoubtedly 60s to 77 would be my favourite period as well...athuvum in particular 67 to 77, which incidentally was the best year as far as Hollywood films and rock music is concerned...in my opinion of course.

That the look contributed is only secondary...the script and the mindset of the audience of that time required NT in those kind of films. It's the same audience that required NT in the kind of films we wish he didn't do in late 70s and 80s (though some were done out of favour to producers/directors). But yeah, those were NT's golden years in filmaking.

Yes. The scene where NT is busily engaged in chopping down a big tree all by himself. VSR comes there and looks at his son's palms - feels so bad (he is the reason behind this ordeal) and then takes the axe and asks NT to go home ( MSV's bgm is ringing in my ears). Beautifully played by both the actors.

Similarly, the T.K Bhagavathy - S.Varalakshmi relationship is also beautifully etched. Again, excellently played by the actors.
