Yes Ji. Its live sound. They shudve dubbed instead of using live sound. I wanted to convey this and ended up posting a wrong sentence. May be they were concentrating in memorising and delivering their dialogues right and missed out on the right stress and pauses.
Watched it in Rex Cinemas here in Singapore. Main screen was given to Kanchana 2 since Golden Village (one of the major cinemas locally) was already showing OKK but not K2. Absolutely loved the movie. Didn't feel the 2hr 20min at all. A very cute and relevant movie. MR was absolutely in his element. Save for a couple of scenes, it was a full feel-good movie. Came out loving my girlfriend even more (if it was possible :P)
Loved the placement of all songs, especially Naane Varuven which is my favourite in the album. ARR was a genius once again with the BGM. That naughty little bit early on when the leads talk on the phone for the second time. And also using Satya Prakash's part in Naane Varuven (Chinanjiru chinanjiru ragasiyame....) in full effect for one of the scenes. PCS was also technically excellent. Stand out moments were when Dulqueer (spelling?) was explaining to his boss the concept of his game early on. The zooming in and out to add tension was brilliant. Paranthu sellava was also visually pleasing, in terms of cinematography and also lighting.
Acting and casting was spot on. Especially the leads and Prakash Raj. The only character was only the 'buddy' character. Fortunately, he doesn't appear for most of the film. MR has used the reportedly low budget (12 crores?) well. All in all, loved the film. That said, it'd be unfair to compare this to Alaipayuthey though it's unavoidable. If you're still undecided to watch it or not, do yourself a favour, bring your girl or guy and go. Thank me later. And if you are single, well, go as well and see what you are potentially missing out on :)

Decent movie ... the initial meetings and the dialogies between the lead roles felt forced / awkward. Mani tried to pull of a Arjun & Meera with a lot more romance, didn't work for me. After the first few meetings the chemistry is wonderful.
Once again a very good performance from Prakash Raj and well supported by his wife character. This plot is also very critical to the success the movie is enjoying.
A very good second half. Some very good romantic and moving scenes, specially the one where Prakash Raj brings his wife back from the hospital and she tells him someday she is going to forget him.
Good ending to a good movie.The big plus is Mani had a simple plot and didn't try to pull off something very spectacular and spoil it with twists.
Overall a very good movie. Nothing extra ordinary or nothing that screams the legend Mani is back.
Edit : Forgot to mention about the BGM, brilliant at many important moments.
here telugu version has more shows (almost twice) than tamil.

A very soft movie from MR. Probably the movie with the least 'heaviness' in the plot. The only earlier fluff I can think of is probably 'Thiruda Thiruda'. That being said, wonderfully made movie. The simplicity of the plot makes MR weave his magic and regain his rightful place in Tamil cinema. He is probably the only classy intellectual in Tamil cinema that has maintained it over the last few decades, in spite of the misadventures up north.
With such a small budget, quick production and release, this movie should set him on the right path to becoming the leader at least in Tamil movies. Trying to combine Hindi and Tamil sentiments rarely works and Mani has quite a few wounds to vouch for that. Hoping to see more of Mani in Tamil. Those guys in north don't deserve him anyway. They can have their Khans and Kapoors.
And, while on the movie, what a find as the lead pair.... Both Dulquer and Nithya are wonderful! Hope the tamil movie directors use Nithya in more roles, in spite of her non-standard-imported-actress look. One can only hope...
Okk i think is just a filler to get some cash :).. Hes probably working on something big which might be in hindi

If someone asks me to list all the beautiful things in the world, definitely some of the Manirathanm's movie will have its mention. OKK is one such amazingly beautiful movie. The charm of the Aaathi and Tara is such a bliss. The performance of prakashraj and leela brings out the love and compassion from within that is hidden underneath. Realistic dialogues with its right timing is an added asset. With no judgements, cliches or a preachy feel, the movie just portrays the attitude of the characters from their standpoint .In the recent times; there have never been a movie which blends great writing with outstanding visuals, performances and music like this one. The way Maniratham has beautifully captured the truth in today's society and offered the truth in his gutsy artistic vision is a true testimonial that he is a great legend of our times.
Overall, Manirathnam, Rahman and P C sreeram has presented a paradise for the audience. At the end of the movie, a great feel of joy radiates from the heart and that's where the movie truly suceeds...

Watched the movie..its above average feel good movie for me,few good moments especially the scenes between Prakash and leela were good..Dulquer acting is good,nithya menon acting just OK but "Pppaaaahhhhh"..The climax portion argument between lead pairs in car is very very atificial and irritating..
Mani want to get out of flops so he has played safely in choosing urban love story..understandable..Hope he is back in delivering great movies like Kannathil Muthamittal.PC Sriram also done very easily and beautifully with not so complicated locations..
For ARR its very easy to compose for love stories like this..
Being gr8 fan of ARR for years I can say after long time ARR delivered superbly overall..His lingaa-raavanan is average,Kadal is just above average,Kochadaiyaan-good..
OK kanmani is very good but still waiting something like Jodha Akbar,Guru,swades..In last 10 years he has delivered extra-ordinary music in Hindi which may be has given such platform to experiment..
So in that sense waiting desperately for his musical in "Mohenjo Daro" directed by jodha akbar fame Ashutosh Gowariker..

When I first heard the track "Maula Wa Sallim" I couldn't make heads or tails of it. Now I sit agape with admiration. It seamlessly blends into the narrative.

Distributors Prime Media released Mani Ratnam's latest OK Kanmani in the US and the response from the audience there has been simply fabulous. The movie was released in around 73 locations and Houseful seems to be the constant phenomenon across all the centers.
The distributors tweeted "#HouseFull everywhere. Thanks #ManiRatnam for giving biggest blockbuster of our distribution career #OKKanmani"
Leading trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the film's box-office stats in the US, and called it outstanding in both the Tamil and Telugu versions.
Tamil film #OKKanmani is OUTSTANDING in USA. Thu + Fri $ 175,795 [₹ 1.10 cr]. Telugu version #OKBangaram Thu + Fri $ 73,360 [₹ 45.89 lacs].
So, even before the Sat - Sun weekend, OKK has grossed close to 1.6 crores from its 2 versions. The weekend stats would be keenly awaited. We will keep you posted.

Very informative interview, this is the first time I hear about live-sound. I thought talking portion of all movies were completed in dubbing studios.
Interz, almost all mani movies after Ayitha Ezhuthu had live sound. Kamal's Hey Ram had live sound too..
Manmadhan ambu had live sound..hearing live sound brings a whole new experience
