Surya has two people to thank in terms of giving a fillip to his career - 3 if you consider Mani/Vasanth for introducing him although he didnt utilise that chance well - Bala and Jyothika. Bala's role is well known. Jyothika's role in recommending him for some of his movies(some of them flop ones but most crucially, it was she who recommended GVM and Surya to each other for kAkka kakka).
I agree with Maddy that nandri navilallAm edhir pArka mudiyAdhu - as a human being, yes, maybe a nice gesture.

But ipdi nice gesture paNNi paNNiyE orutharai tamizh thirai ulagula totalA waste paNNAnga - he is the greatest of them all. So, generalAvE, if I were a fan of someone, I wouldnt want him/her to do nandri navilal and nandrikadan.
apdiyE nandri navindrAlum, it should be like what Kamal did for pArtthAlE paravasam. summA oru token appearance veNA kudukkalAm. As an artist with obligations to give his best to his fans - and I am not concerned with his personal nicety, all I want is the best of his artistry on screen - if they have to stamp on a few egos and ruthlessly reject their mentors, so be it. That is how I'd look at it.

Surya is very vevarams in this aspect. After holding initial discussions, Vasanth went ahead and announced that Surya is the hero of his next movie (expecting nandrikadan). No noise from Surya's side. Finally the movie started with Prithviraj as the hero.

Udhayanidhi’s Manmadhan Ambu it seems is set for a huge opening. With Suriya being the latest addition to the star cast. Suriya who has been roped in by K.S. Ravikumar is believed to be ecstatic about his role in this Kamal Haasan starrer. The romantic movie already boasts of a line-up that includes Kamal Haasan, Madhavan, Trisha, Sangeetha, Ramesh Arvindh in lead roles.

Unit sources confirmed that Suriya plays a cameo and performed a song for four days that was canned in Kodaikkanal recently. It is to be noted that Suriya gave a big hit — Aadhavan with Ravikumar and Red Giant, the makers of Manmadhan Ambu. Interestingly he did a cameo in Bala’s Avan Ivan and also shot for it few days back. Looks like Suriya is obliging filmmakers with whom he shares a special vibe.
