விஸ்வநாத நாயக்கடு படம் பற்றிய ஒரு விளக்கம். வெளியாக இருப்பது, நடிகர் திலகத்தின் குரலில் விஸ்வநாத நாயக்கடு படத்தின் தமிழாக்கம். எனவே மீண்டும் சிம்மக்குரல் திக்கெட்டும் ஒலிக்கும்.

NostalgiaBrothers G. Manikkavel and G. Ratnavel, talk of their father M.A. Gurusamy Nadar, who founded Royal Theatre and the Royal Hindu Restaurant. They describe the times when 100-day celebrations at theatres were routine
“Those were the golden days of cinema,” reminisces G. Ratnavel of Royal Theatres. Classics such asChandralekha,Avvaiyyar,Baga Pirivinai, andPaasamalarruled. Almost every single film was a success story. Royal Theatres on Town Hall Road buzzed as people thronged the theatres and watched their matinee idols. “Every film ran for 100 days. We needed just three films in a year to run the show. Cinema was a big attraction. The only entertainment in Coimbatore was cinema,” says the youngest son of M. A. Gurusamy Nadar, the founder of Royal Theatre and the Royal Hindu Restaurant. It was at Royal that director K. Balachander's Telugu filmMaro Charitra, starring Kamal Hassan and Saritha, set a record. “It ran to packed houses for 420 morning shows,” he recalls.
In the 1920s Gurusamy Nadar who worked in Kolkata, helped one of his relatives set up a hotel in Coimbatore. He took over that hotel and the Royal Hindu Restaurant (RHR) was born on V. H. Road in 1936, opposite the current back gate of the railway station. When the gate shifted, he moved the restaurant including boarding and lodging to its current location in 1938.
Young Gurusamy Nadar had a flair for drama. He brimmed with ideas. His acquaintance with theatre stalwarts such as M.K.Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, Pulimoot Ramasamy and N. S. Krishnan, who frequented Coimbatore to conduct dramas, introduced him to world of arts. They were regular guests at RHR.
Theatre artist R. S. Manohar, who immortalised villain roles on screen, stayed at RHR, when he performed his super hit “Lankeswaran” at VOC Park Grounds. So did N.S. Krishnan, whose theatre movement used comedy to drive home social messages.
Gurusamy Nadar built the Royal Theatre during the independence period, basically for dramas. T. K. Shanmugham and T. K.Bhagavathy, popular artists of a travelling troupe stagedAvvaiyar,almost every day. T. K. Shanmugham mastered the art of make-up. “He would start to put on the make-up hours before the show to get the drooping chin and shrivelled skin of Avvaiyar just right. Kamal Hassan's make-up technique in films such asIndianandAvvai Shanmugi is much talked about but T.K. Shanmugham introduced it much earlier,” says Ratnavel. The travelling drama troupe constructed Shanmugha Theatre and ended their nomadic life. The dramas were performed there. Then, Royal Theatre opened its gates for films. When Gurusamy Nadar passed away when he was 51, his wife Chinnathaimmal, a courageous woman, took over.
Ratnavel talks about the association with one of RHR's guests, the 16-year-old MGR, who was a part of a drama troupe. Gurusamy's eldest son G. Sundravel and MGR became good friends and the future CM became like family.
“On every visit to Coimbatore as a CM right till he breathed his last, MGR made it a point to visit my mother at our home,” says Ratnavel. During his shooting schedule in Coimbatore, food always went from the RHR home. “He loved chicken,” he says fondly. Whenever Sivaji Ganesan stayed at the hotel, he had food at their home, a stone's throw away from the hotel. Coimbatore's hospitality bowled over the stars. Several other stars including Nagesh, Nambiar and Saroja Devi bonded with the family. “They frequented the city as their films invariably ran for 100 days and the celebrations that followed brought them on the dais in front of the audience,” he says.

நடிகர் திலகத்தின் காவியங்களில் ஒரு காவியம் நூறாவது நாள் வெற்றி விழா கண்ட போது விழாவில் நடிகர் திலகம் கலந்துகொண்ட அற்புத புகைப்படம் ஒன்று இணையத்தில் கிடைத்தது. அதை உடனே தங்கள் அனைவருடனும் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ளத் தோன்றியது. புகைப்படம் சற்று சிறிய வடிவில் இருந்ததால் அதை பெரிதாக்கித் தந்துள்ளேன். நிஜமாகவே அபூர்வ படம் தானே!
