The 15th Mumbai Film Festival will bestow its Lifetime Achievement award on French filmmaker Costa-Gavras and actor Kamal Haasan.
Gavras is best known for his political thrillers, such as the Best Foreign Language Oscar-winner Z (1969); Missing (1982), for which Gavras won the Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) Oscar; The Little Apocalypse (1993) and Amen (2002).
The Greek-born Gavras has also been conferred with the title of French Knighthood. Since 2007, he has also been serving as the President of Cinémathèque Française, one of the world’s largest film archives.
“We are honored to confer the Lifetime Achievement Award to Costa-Gavras. His films have been loved and celebrated by millions of cinema lovers worldwide. We are humbled that he has agreed to receive this award,” said Shyam Benegal, Chairman, Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI).
Festival Director Srinivasan Narayanan said: “When I think of Costa-Gavras, I am overwhelmed by the elegant, humanist films he has bequeathed to humanity, his gentle nudge to stand up and take a position as he did with his announcement for “Z” – “Any similarity to persons or events is deliberate”. It is our good fortune that we would be receiving him in the Mumbai Film Festival and interacting with him for a whole week.”

Along with Gavras, legendary Indian actor-director Kamal Haasan will also be bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Haasan has over 190 films to his credit, across genres, industries and languages including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. He is best known for his performances in films such as Moondram Pirai (1982), Nayagan (1987), Pushpak (1987), Appu Raja (1989) and Hey Ram (2000). In his career, he has won three National Film Awards, a Padma Shri, and a Kalaimamani Award.
Shyam Benegal said, “He is a legend in every sense of the term. He is a writer, singer, director, lyricist and an actor par-excellence. We are extremely honored to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Kamal Haasan.”
Srinivasan Narayanan said, “My generation grew up watching Kamal Haasan’s films. His growth as an actor from K. Balachander’s Arangetram and Apoorva Raagangal to his award winning performances in Mani Ratnam’s Nayagan and Indian and the variety he brought in – from serious films to comedies to action films is phenomenal. He is straddling across all departments of filmmaking like a colossus.”
The 15th Mumbai Film Festival will take place from the 17th – 24, October 2013.

அதனால்தான் டைரக்டர் ஆசையை எனக்குள்ளேயே வைத்து விட்டு மீண்டும் நடித்தேன். அவர் சொன்னது போலவே நான் பெரிய நடிகனாகி விட்டேன். ஆக, கே.பி சாரின் கணிப்பும், ஆசீர்வாதமும் என்னை வாழ வைத்தது. மேலும், அவர் என்னை பெரிய இயக்குனர் என்கிறார். அதைதான் என்னால் ஏற்க முடியவில்லை. காரணம், நான் இன்றைக்கு படம் இயக்குகிறேன் என்றால், அவை அனைத்தும் அவரிடம் நான் கற்றதுதான். அவரிடத்தில் பயின்றதை இன்றைய டெக்னாலஜியுடன் சேர்த்து பிரமாண்டமாக கொடுக்கிறேன் அவ்வளவுதான். அதனால் அவரை விட என்னை பெரிய இயக்குனர் என்று சொல்வதை என்னால் ஒருபோதும் ஏற்க முடியாது என்றார் கமல்.
மேலும், என்னை வைத்து கே.பி சார் பல படங்களை இயக்கியிருக்கிறார். 6 ஆண்டுகளில் கண்ணை மூடி முழிப்பதற்குள் அவரது இயக்கத்தில் 34 படங்களில் நடித்தேன். இதை நான் ரொம்ப பெருமையாக கருதுகிறேன். ஆனால், அப்படி அவரது படத்தில் நடித்த எனக்கு இப்போது, என் இயக்கத்தில் அவரை நடிக்க வைக்க வேண்டும் என்ற ஆசையும் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. அப்படி அவர் நடிக்கும்போது அவருடன் இணைந்து நானும் நடிக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் ஆசைப்படுகிறேன்.
ஏனென்றால் அவர் ஒரு நல்ல நடிகன். அத்தனை அற்புதமாக நடிப்பு சொல்லித்தரக்கூடியவர். அதனால் அவரை ஒரு நடிகனாக நான் இயக்க வேண்டிய தருணம் வரப்போகிறது. அதற்காக விரைவில் அவரிடம் அனுமதியும் பெறுவேன் என்று தனது ஆவலையும் அதே மேடையில் கே.பி முன்பு வெளிப்படுத்தினார் கமல்.

ரஜினி பற்றி பேசும்போது, ரஜினிகாந்த் சார்பில் நான் இங்கு வந்து இருக்கிறேன். அவர் இந்த விழாவுக்கு வர இயலவில்லை. நான் வரவில்லை என்றால் என் சார்பில் அவர் வருவார். எங்கள் இருவருக்கும் இடையே அந்த அளவுக்கு நெருங்கிய நட்பு இருந்து வருகிறது. 34 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு இந்த படத்தில் நடித்தபோதுதான் நாங்கள் இருவரும் இனிமேல் இணைந்து நடிப்பதில்லை என்ற முடிவுக்கு வந்தோம். இனிமேல் நாம் இருவரும் ஒரே சம்பளத்தை பங்கு போட்டுக் கொள்ள வேண்டாம். தனித்தனியாக படங்களில் நடிக்கலாம் என்று நான் சொன்னேன். அதை ரஜினியும் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். நாங்கள் தனித்தனியாக பிரிந்து நடித்ததால் இந்தளவு வளர்ந்திருக்கிறோம், ஒருவேளை நாங்கள் சேர்ந்து நடித்தால் இப்போது இருவரும் ஆட்டோவில் தான் வந்திருப்போம் என்றார்.

Nearly 250 crores are riding on these three projects and this is something huge for Tamil film standards. Now these three films are at various stages of productions and we got some news regarding the release dates of these three biggies. Among the three it looks like Vishwaroopam2 will come first, Kamal has finished almost all major portions and currently the post production work is progressing at a brisk pace.
Sources say Vishwaroopam2 might be a November third week release. Thought he film will be completely ready before October the team want to make sure that it gets a big worldwide release. As Krrish3,Arrambam and many other films are releasing for Diwali, Vishwaroopam2 might be a November third week release in both Hindi and Tamil.
Regarding Kochadaiyaan the team is working 24*7 on the post production and currently the enancing process is progressing at China. Sources close to the production house say that they are planning to finish the post production work within October and after seeing the rushes they will decide the release date. Already the trade is confident that Kochdaiyaan will be 12-12-2013(Rajinikanth b'day) release and they also asked the production house to zero in Rajinikanth's b'day as the release date.
Though some section of media is speculating that Shankar's Ai will be a Pongal release, reliable information on the release plan says that the film will be a April 2014 release. Though Shankar will finish the entire talkie portions by November, he want to make sure that VFX and other post production works are up to the mark. The first look teaser might happen on January 2014 followed by audio and film release date.

The shooting of the most awaited sequel ‘Vishwaroopam 2′ is progressing at a brisk pace. The film shooting is in its final leg. Scenes involving Rahul Bose and Kamal Haasan are currently being canned. The post production work is also happening in full swing.The latest we hear is that the film may hit the screens by the third week of November. The tentative release date is said to be November 22. However an official confirmation is awaited. Kamal Haasan is planning to release the film along with the Hindi version to get maximum screens and ensure a big opening for the film.Kamal, Andrea, Shekar Kapoor, Rahul Bose and Pooja Kumar are part of the cast. Ppl agree that Kamal is in much better shape, BO wise, than how they were (falsely) assuming before, that he was very weak in BO. Athu pothumga! Unbreakable BO Rajni ye irunthuttu pogattum! Kamal will break that then and there and not always, as he is never making movies in full commercial format. Even VR i would say is a successful Hey Raam!Quote:
