Karagattam becomes Thaarai thappattai
Film-maker Bala’s upcoming film has been titled as Thaarai Thappattai. The film was earlier titled as Karakaattam but Bala being what he is, didn’t like his film’s name resembling another film’s name and has gone for a change of title. The film would also be Ilaiyaraaja’s 1000th film in an illustrious career which spans over 38 years.
Sasikumar and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar have been paired as on-screen pair in this film which reportedly has the ancient folk dance form of ‘Karakaattam’ as its central theme. Sasikumar plays a Nadaswara artiste while Varalakshmi plays a Karakaattam dancer. The film has already raised huge expectations as it’s the landmark 1000th film for Ilaiyaraaja who has achieved everything and more in his amazing career.
The Maestro is said to have composed 12 songs for the film. In order to infuse a feeling of nativity in the songs, Ilaiyaraaja reportedly brought number of real life Nadaswaram and Thavil artistes to his Prasad Labs in the city during the compsing sessions. Bala, who had been mourning the demise of his mentor and film-maker Balumahendra who passed away a few weeks back, is back to work with Thaarai Thappattai.
Sasikumar would be seen sans his trademark beard for his role in the film. After shaving off his beard, Sasi had gone in for a fifties-like moustache which looks pencil-thin. Taking his role seriously, Sasi has also been undergoing training from some real-life Nadaswaram artistes.
