3rd to 110th is a gap which is, of course, strictly IMHO.

Parameters, there is nothing mine, its open for all to see. If you want that be defined clearly, then you can take into account the statistics, no of creative attempts, variations, permutations & combinations, time taken to create/finish a work, complex and challenging situations, much more.

For a perfect logical comparison, we need to hade a Raja db, comprising of data items not limited to
List of songs in time chronology order
Raga & other ICM parameters in each song, each part of songs,
WCM Parameters(Counterpoint, Fugue etc)
Instruments used
Average time went to finishing the work
Music Appreciation skills applied
Much more

All the above done for BGMs too.

All data items need to be sortable, searchable and all other 'able'.

Similarly create a db for Kamal;s work, then it would be 'somewhat' easy to compare logically.

The predecessor to it was raajangham.com which was later changed to raaja.com - Both were shut down , probably due to lack of resources and now raaja.com is being brought again !

Ok. App, that was quite a coincidence. I was about to say that.
Now, this all nicely segues into a lengthy discourse for me. Stay with me until I come to the point. (Somehow Suresh'sblog posts seem to do this to me.)

This is a nice counter-point in my area of interest - namely, the claim that IR does the perfect mapping between emotions, situations and music. The chief antagonists of this theory refute it saying that it is merely my imagination given the circumstances in which I encounter the songs. Obviously, I dont mean that every single song of Raja is mapped like that - but they attribute - even the specific ones that are an evolution of the director and IR colloborating on the situation/emotion and creating the song - to a possible attachment of that meaning to the song by my mind as a reaction to what I see on screen and then it becomes intertwined as to blur the lines for me and create the illusion that the music is order made for that emotion/situation. Stay with me, I am coming to the point in a moment.

Right, so, why this discussion is relevant to that is that, like App, I have always associated this song with yung luvs rather than ma-son sentiment. As sufficiently described by Suresh and App, the song plays out parallely in the picturisation for both
these strands. I maintain that I am unable to reconcile the second of this thread with the song. What this should imply for my aforementioned argument is that I am not always influenced by what is on screen and retrofitting. I obviously maintain that is never the case - but this case actually provides evidence to myself that my original theory of associating music with emotion - and IR's perfectness in doing that as compared to peers - stands.

So, how do we reconcile with this case then? I maintain that Mani might not have picturised exactly as narrated - the song seems to have taken life at the editing table.

I agree with you. Very recently our hubber friend 'eagle' had the same thing to say on twitter. He was replying to someone else and he put up 'Manjal Veyil' and asked if someone can bring out the intended emotion just through the music. You don't require the words at all to understand what 'Manjal Veyil' wants to convey. From my side I put up 'Azhagaaga Sirithadhu' from 'December Pookal'. And the tune itself conveys the 'ilavenir kaalam aarambam' so very well. You don't require the words nor do you need to see the picturization to know that.

Your theory on 'nagu endide' is quite unique I would say. I would probably agree with you and app except for the way he blends the charanam into the pallavi. That doesn't sound like a love song to me. That is where a different type of affection can be heard. But as you said, things can change after the song is picturised. Case in point: "malli malli idhi raani roju" from 'Rakshasudu'. The whole song has a train beat associated with it but the song is picturized in a boat!!! . SPB in one program asked the director Kodandarama Reddy as to whether he wanted to picturize this song in the backdrop of a train. The director said that it was the initial idea but since they were in Kashmir for shooting some other part of the film, they decided to film the song in Dal lake !!! SPB remarked that Raja would not have had the train beat had the director not asked for it.
