Shud be available for Chrome and other browsers too. this addon stops alomst ALL scripts. Will be very irritating till u setup for each and every page. but once done, this will help load pages faster.
another addon which is kind of essential is Flash blocker. But you have to click on youtube videos everytime, it won't play automatically.

Read somewhere that 3G networks still use a dedicated channel for transmitting voice/data (something they refer as circuit switching) and in 4G they would use packets instead making it more efficient

As DH said, speed is the main advantage. Infact it has many advantages for Operators/backend Its very easy for servie providers to migrate from 3G to 4G, than 2G to 3G. All the cost/tech/time is less for them. In India, there is 4G only for Datacards, in some places. Yet to get in phones.
Since speed is there, and if we have powerful devise to make use of it, this will be like portable broadband. And, video calls, i guess they are yet to become famous
3g by itself is much faster...
last week, i went to my friends place where he was newly shifted to...
there was no internet... we jus created a hotspot from phone and connected our apple tv to that... done... it was streaming the hd movie without even a little delay... it was superfast too...
