The problem was the hiring of drivers..
One expanding school of thought is that both Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen went in the wrong direction last season. Whereas Raikkonen's sheer pace and familiarisation with the McLaren set-up may have unsettled Hamilton, Ferrari could have adorned Alonso with the preferential treatment that he evidently believes his status as double World Champion deserves.
If he is beaten by Hamilton this season, there must be a strong possibility that his petulance will manifest itself through a transfer request.
siva, kimi won two races back to back.. :P dont u change ur opinion now?Quote:

FIA President Max Mosley has revealed how Formula One racing’s governing body plans to spend the proceeds from McLaren’s record $100 million fine.
If Mosley has his way, McLaren’s rivals will receive a portion of the money, with the rest distributed among national motorsport authorities to help fund young driver programmes.
“Roughly half of it will go to the other teams, the other half we’re going - if the World Council agrees - to distribute to our ASNs worldwide to bring on young drivers,” Mosley told reporters at Spa.
McLaren’s fine - and the team’s exclusion from the 2007 constructors’ championship - came after the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council decided they had exploited confidential technical information obtained from Ferrari.
But whilst some in the paddock, including McLaren boss Ron Dennis, felt the punishment extreme, Mosley suggested the team were fortunate not to have received a harsher penalty.
“They were extremely lucky we didn’t quite simply say, ‘You have polluted the championship in 2007, you’ve probably polluted it in 2008 - because we’ve no way of knowing what information you’re using for what in your 2007 and 2008 cars - so you’d better stay out of the championship until 2009, because that way we know it’s completely clear.’
“We didn’t do that, and I think when the history of this gets to be written, it may be what we will be reproached not for doing too much, but for doing too little.”
McLaren have yet to confirm whether they plan to appeal the decision.
FIA releases full WMSC judgement on McLarenCoughlan, De la Rosa, Alonso shared data obtained from Stepney
A number of McLaren employees - including Pedro de la Rosa and Fernando Alonso - knew about the team’s unauthorised possession of confidential Ferrari information, and some intended to use that information in the team’s own testing.
That was among the findings of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council (WMSC), which published its full judgement on Friday afternoon following its decision to strip McLaren of their 2007 constructors' points and fine the team $100 million.
The findings contradict previous claims from McLaren that the Ferrari data had not spread beyond suspended chief designer Mike Coughlan, who allegedly received it from former Ferrari engineer Nigel Stepney.
In its judgement, the Council cites evidence of ongoing communications between Coughlan and Stepney, as well as between Coughlan and McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa, who the FIA claim “requested and received secret Ferrari information from a source which he knew to be illegitimate” and shared that information with world champion Fernando Alonso.
Emails between Coughlan, de la Rosa and Alonso formed part of the new evidence that prompted Thursday’s second hearing into the affair. July’s original hearing had found McLaren in breach of the International Sporting Code, but had not sanctioned the team due to lack of evidence.
The emails covered topics such as the weight distribution and braking system of Ferrari’s car, a flexible rear wing design and a gas used by the Italian team to inflate its tyres. They also suggested that Stepney had fed Coughlan real-time information on Ferrari’s pit stop strategy in this year’s Australian Grand Prix.
According to the Council, “The e-mails show unequivocally that both Mr. Alonso and Mr. de la Rosa received confidential Ferrari information via Coughlan; that both drivers knew that this information was confidential Ferrari information and that both knew that the information was being received by Coughlan from Stepney.”. In submitting their evidence, de la Rosa and Alonso were granted immunity from any personal sanctions.
The other new evidence related to communications between Coughlan and Stepney, which, according to reports from the Italian police, was of a far greater level than the Council had previously thought, leading it to conclude that Coughlan “was in receipt of a flow of confidential Ferrari information from Stepney.”
According to the Council, the new evidence makes clear that:
"...Coughlan had more information than previously appreciated and was receiving information in a systematic manner over a period of months;
- the information has been disseminated, at least to some degree (e.g. to Mr. de la Rosa and Mr. Alonso), within the McLaren team;
- the information being disseminated within the McLaren team included not only highly sensitive technical information but also secret information regarding Ferrari’s sporting strategy;
- Mr de la Rosa, in the performance of his functions at McLaren, requested and received secret Ferrari information from a source which he knew to be illegitimate and expressly stated that the purpose of his request was to run tests in the simulator;
- the secret information in question was shared with Mr. Alonso;
- there was a clear intention on the part of a number of McLaren personnel to use some of the Ferrari confidential information in its own testing. If this was not in fact carried into effect it was only because there were technical reasons not to do so;
- Coughlan’s role within McLaren (as now understood by the WMSC) put him in a position in which his knowledge of the secret Ferrari information would have influenced him in the performance of his duties."
The Council concluded that “some degree of sporting advantage was obtained, though it may forever be impossible to quantify that advantage in concrete terms.”

F1 title decided off the track: Alonso
October 06, 2007
Fernando Alonso believes this year's Formula One world title race ended when stewards decided not to punish McLaren team mate Lewis Hamilton for his driving at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Hamilton took pole position for the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday and just needs to finish ahead of Alonso and Finn Kimi Raikkonen on Sunday to become the first rookie world champion.
But it might have been very different had stewards investigating a crash behind the safety car in Fuji last weekend punished Hamilton by moving him down the grid for alleged erratic driving.
"I'm not thinking of this championship any more, it's been decided off the track," Alonso, who trails Hamilton by 12 points with two races left in the season, told Italy's Sky TV before practice.
The allegation that Hamilton's driving had contributed to the collision between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber in Japan was discussed late on Friday at a meeting of the drivers presided over by Formula One race director Charlie Whiting.
"The drivers' briefing has no purpose," Alonso said.
"You go there to hear what Charlie Whiting and the other officials say. Twenty one drivers have an opinion, Charlie and the officials another, and so it's like talking to a wall.
"It's better not to waste time and try to have fun in the car."
DESTINY
The Spaniard did not have much fun in qualifying on Saturday, finishing fourth behind Hamilton and the Ferraris of Raikkonen and Felipe Massa.
"Fourth place is the worst place to start tomorrow in terms of the championship battle," he told reporters.
"I am a little bit pessimistic after the result today and after what happened all weekend. I really think that destiny means it is not my lucky year this time."
Despite that pessimism, the double defending world champion said he could still win Sunday's race if the rain clouds hurtling towards Shanghai ahead of typhoon Krosa get to the circuit in time for the race.
"We expect some rain tomorrow and we know what can happen in wet races, so fingers crossed for tomorrow for some rain and maybe I have a chance," he said.
The 26-year-old, in his first season with McLaren, said he had experienced more ups and downs this year than in any previous season and admitted to being angry at end of qualifying.
"I am always angry when I'm not in a good position and I don't perform as well as I can. That is normal."

In the last lap, Massa leads the race with kimi raikkonen in 3rd position. This means that kimi raikkonen will fall short of Hamilton by 1 point. So, the Ferrari team management orders Massa to relinquish the lead and also allow kimi raikkonen to take the second place, resulting in Kimi winning the championship by 1 point ahead of Hamilton..
You cant do that now unfortunately, team orders are banned in Formula one after the infamous 2002 Austrian GP..
i really hope Kimi will win the championship, because lets face it, hes the greatest drievr on the grid now i dont care about what people say about his attitude..
only one situation now.. Hamilton out, Alonso 3rd, and Massa in 2nd place..
