Lyca Productions the producers of Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Kaththi, are very happy. They have been able to sell all areas at high price and is getting very attractive MG’s from Tamil Nadu theaters.
After selling the rights of Kerala distribution to Thameens and Telugu rights to Tagore Madhu, Lyca have sold the Karnataka rights to Goldie Films – a company which distributes Bollywood movies in Karnataka. With that, Kaththi’s South Indian distribution trade is over.
Meanwhile, Kaththi’s Canada distributor – Ayngaran Canada has announced a record release of 20 screens in Canada, the highest for any South Indian movie there. In Malaysia also, Kaththi’s distributor is looking at 120 screens, another new record for any Indian movie.
The numbers are yet to come for Gulf, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Australia. At this rate, we can expect a new record opening in overseas markets.

Akshay Kumar in A R Murugadoss’ Hindi remake of Kaththi?
After phenomenal success of Holiday, the Entertainment actor seems to be keen to work with AR Murugadoss again
Director A R Murugadoss Kaththi (Knife) starring Ilayathalapathy Vijay has been in the news constantly over the last few months. The movie is all set to release for Diwali on Oct 22 but the latest buzz is that it may be remade in Hindi! Apparently, action star Akshay Kumar has shown interest in the film and is eager to see the final product. Having worked with Murugadoss in Holiday (remake of Thuppaki), it looks like Akshay was keen on checking out Kaththi to see if it was right up his alley.
Post Kaththi, Murugadoss is headed to Bollywood to start work on his original Hindi script which is woman-centric starring Sonakshi Sinha. We wonder if the director will work on the Hindi remake of Kaththi (if all goes well) post this project. However, there was no revert from Murugadoss when we contacted him to confirm this new development.
