Doesn't Anushka look kind of weird? I think they went overboard with the makeup.

I don't think so. Anuska goes for more touch-ups than colorings, quite visible in most of her films, including 2nd World and Lingaa. She just wore bright lip colors in Vedham. Here, her hairdo is new, kind of a profilic change. And also the 'Pinnal' is not many people's cup of coffee as for a while we have been seeing only loose hair in slow motion. I think the profile artists worked night shifts to project her ears and neck. Her ear wear is going to be the talk of the town. Plus, the hair do kind of mingles with the modern but traditional girl. Anuska has got most of the body and mannerism features when exploited properly would look like a darling. GVM has tried his best.

Lets see on the screen how it gets converted while in motion with costumes, and I am sure she is going to be a hit.

No wonder GVM just picked only these lines to tweet, on loop

    ஒரு வெள்ளி கொலுசு போல இந்த பூமி சிணுங்கும் கீழ
    அணியாத வைரம் போல அந்த வானம் மினுங்கும் மேல

    Music: Harris Jayaraj
    Lyrics: Thamarai,Vignesh Shivan
Singer: Sunitha Sarathy, Khareshma Ravichandran, Karthik, Emcee Jesz, Benny Dayal, Mahathi, Devan Ekambaram, Mark Thomas, Abhishek, Vijay Prakash, Gana Bala, Aalaap Raju, Priya Subramanian, Velmurugan, Krishna Iyer, Chinmayi

With every passing day Ajith’s Yennai Arindhaal is turning on the heat, with Ajith’s massive online following leading to the film’s trailer and songs trending like crazy on social media. The film directed by ace filmmaker Gautham Menon also stars Trisha Krishnan, Anushka Shetty and Arun Vijay. The music scored by Harris Jayaraj, which has been widely anticipated for months, is finally here. The single Adhaaru Adhaaru, which was released couple of weeks ago, is already a huge hit among the fans. Lets plug in the earphones and listen to the tunes of Harris Jayaraj, to see if the album of Yennai Arindhaal delivers on it’s promise.

    Yaen Ennai

The album opens with highly westernised song titled Yaen Ennai. Sung by Sunitha Sarathy and Khareshma Ravichandran, the song composed by Harris Jayaraj will give you a feel of hearing a highly stylised English pop song. Both the singers have shown off their immense range of vocals and the way English lyrics are sung will remind you of Rihana. The song starts of with a peculiar sound from the synthesiser paving way to energetic guitar riffs and mild techno beats. Saxaphone piece in the middle of the song is noteworthy. In short, the unique western style singing makes Yaen Ennai memorable.

    Mazhai Vara Pogudhae

The next song in the album might remind you of Manjal Veyil from Vettaiyadu Vilayadu as both the songs are romantic numbers with a difference and both of them are composed by Harris Jayaraj. Sung beautifully by Karthik, this romantic song with western musical arrangements is sure to make you click that repeat button. Lyrics from Thamarai are apt for a romantic number, but it is Harris Jayaraj’s complex mixture of synthesiser sound, bass guitar, drums and R &B elements make this song stand out. Also the use of guitar and drums gives a feel of bandlike music. With Karthik’s melodious vocals backed by Harris’ foot tapping composition is definetly a winner from the album.

    Unakkena Venum Sollu

Benny Dayal is a revelation in this soul stirring romantic track. That’s right! Benny, who lends his voice to fast paced numbers, has sung the romantic number Unakkena Vennum Sollu with such panache that will leave you spell bound. After utilising a lot of western elements in the previous song, Harris has stuck to basic instruments like guitar, drums, flute and orchestra to create a magical number. The song starts with simple acoustic guitar strumming, which continues throughout the song, paving way to mesmerising vocals of Benny Dayal and Mahathi singing soul touching lyrics from Thamarai. The chorus portions in the song alleviate the song to whole new level and mild orchestration will give you goosebumps. With three great tracks, looks like Harris Jayaraj is on a roll.

    Yennai Arindhaal

The title track is finally here. And how is it? Mind blowing! The song highlighting the heroics of Thala Ajith has been sung by the trio Abhishek, Devan Ekambaram and Mark Thomas. But the song compeletely belongs to music director Harris Jayaraj, who seems to have gone into an experimental mode with Yennai Arindhaal title track. Harris brings back the synthesiser and puts it to some incredible use. The synthesiser combined with unique mix of dubstep, DJ effects and EDM loops produces such an amazing sound that will leave you overwhelmed. The energy of the song varies as it falls down a bit while vocals arrive but peaks to zenith in the interludes. The song might be loved by avid gamers as it sounds more like a gaming music. As for the rest, we would be left awestruck, not knowing what hit us. Two thumbs up for the title track!

    Adhaaru Adhaaru

This song needs no introduction as it has already become a huge hit among the masses. The song starts of with a very unique yet enjoyable guitar piece which instantly puts you in jolly mood, which is quickly followed by interesting chorus with quirky lyrics from Vignesh Shivan. Vijay Prakash’s strong vocals perfectly match the mood of the song which is filled with desi drum beats and nadaswaram. Gana Bala plays a good second fiddle to Vijay as he maximises the fun in the song. This local semi-kuthu number is colourful and will make you want to hit the dance floor. The unconventional combo of Vijay Prakash and Gana Bala works wonders, as Harris takes back seat allowing his singers to walk away with applause.

    Maya Bazaar

Looks like the ace music director has regained his lost touch and is in full form . Maya Bazaar is three songs disguised as one, with each one giving tough competition to another. Harris has combined songs of different genres to dish out an extremely delicious number. The song starts with Aalaap Raju’s refreshing vocals backed by Harris’ favourite synthesiser and dubstep giving an urban feel to the song. Quickly, the song shifts gears as Krishna Iyer and Priya Subramanian sing an ultra melodious number, which will remind you of glorious 60’s. This honey like sweet number is backed by beautiful arrangement of Indian instruments like tabla, flute and sitar. This is followed by a highly enjoyable rendition from Velmurugan, bcked by nadaswaram, which will make you snap your fingers in joy. The song ends with melodious chorus and hautingly beautiful orchestra piece. Harris has shown is command over wide range of music in Maya Baazar.

    Idhayathai Yedho Ondru

The last song of the album is Idhayathai Yedho Ondru, which is a reprise version of Unakkena Venum Sollu. Sung by the nightingale of Tamil cinema, Chinmayi, the song kicks off with a beautiful piano piece followed by Chinmayi’s sweet vocals. Soon, mild guitar riff, beats and flute adds to the melody of the melancholic number. Overall the song’s meaningful lyrics, Chinmayi’s voice and soothing music makes it a must hear for those in love.

Verdict: Harris Jayaraj-Gautham Menon combo has always led to some incredible music. And here they are yet again delivering a heck of an album with great mix of songs to keep you hooked. Yennai Arindhaal album is a winner, with every song ,more or less, hitting the bulls eye.

Our Pick: Mazhai Vara Pogudhae, Yennai Arindhaal, Unakkena Venum Sollu

    Rating: 4 out of 5
