My two cents: Rajinikanth of the early to mid 80's may have been a good fit. But Superstar Rajini....? No Way... Theatres would be ransacked, burned by fans, if they see their superstar and his family being beaten up by a constable....and he does not fight back...IMO, the time for Rajinikanth to play the common man is long over.

ரஜினி பாபநாசத்தில் நடிக்க மறுத்ததற்கான காரணங்கள்.

1.ரஜினிக்கு இந்த மாதிரி கேரக்டரில் நடிக்க வராது.
2.ஐஸ்வர்யா,தீபிகா,சோனாக்ஷி மாதிரி ஹீரோயின்களோட நடிச்சிட்டு ,பழைய ஹீரோயின்களோட நடிக்க மனசு இடம் கொடுத்து இருக்காது.
3.படத்தில் எந்த விதமான கமர்சியல் சமாசாரங்கள் கிடையாது.
4.சம்பளம் கம்மியாக இருந்திருக்கும்.

It is not 1980s. No way theatres will be burned. Trend changed.

Now Fans are not interested to all those things.

Each one has many personal things to do rather than burning out theatre

clarification: I had not meant the theatre burning/ransacking in a literal sense. Rajinikanth can act in similar scene that I mentioned. My point was that his image will not permit him to act in such scenes....But sorry for the digression, I don't want to become an unwitting Naradhar to start a Rajini vs Kamal slug fest here.

We could always have a mature discussion on what Rajini can/cannot do without indulging in abuses and other name callings. But most may not see it that way. Anyways.

This is the problem Rajni has been facing for a decade now!!! His so called "Army of fan(atics) " would not allow this "great" actor to do challenging roles, they always want him to do the mokkai kind of roles, at least in Endhiran Shankar changed this stereo type formula and the bought the "Great" actor back in the form of chittie v2!

Calling Rajni Narrow minded is absurd, his fanatics decide his fate, a really sad position for any actor to be in, and in whole of India, he is the ONLY actor in this dilemma ...
