Man in a million in a new mould

`AYIRATHIL ORUVAN' is staging a comeback in `Erandayiram'. One of the greats of Tamil Nadu, M. G. Ramachandran, is ready to set the screen ablaze, in a new cyberage avatar.

In a reincarnation of sorts, a tribute befitting a man who captured millions of hearts, Cuecom Entertainment has devised Erandayirathil Oruvan, an entertainment event.

The idea is to revive the spirit of MGR, ``among the youth in a manner and fashion which they relish. It will be a mix of the old and the new to reiterate to the world that MGR was a man for all seasons,'' explains Mr. Suresh M. Iyer, Cuecom Managing Director. The timing of the multi-faceted entertainment shows that its ``apolitical nature'' could not be better as it coincides with the birth anniversary of MGR.

Mr. Paul Jacob of Bodhi`n' Soul, music production house that has recreated eight foot-tapping melodious remix MGR numbers, says, ``None can match his persona. He remains a superman of the Tamils.'' The sacrosanct image of MGR who vowed to purge the society of evils will remain intact in the remix. The difference between the good and the bad will be amply clear. After all, MGR was not a serious person. He was one who loved to be one with the people and enjoy life.

The event will take-off with a back-to-back MGR film festival, at select cinemas in 10 important cities of the State between January 7 to 13, according to Real Entertainment, event managers.

The event will culminate with Hero's Day celebrations on January 17, a time to party, at the IIT grounds. The entertainment content will not be run-of-the-mill. It will have an MGR fashion and fight show. People practising the martial art, Silambam, will perform.

The highlight of the programme will be the ``MGR cyberage music, to be presented by Tamil pop icons. All this and more will be telecast live on Raj TV. Kicking off the campaign, Mr.Vairamuthu, lyricist, said the South India Cultural Centre, a society committed to the development of culture and the fine arts in the South, has planned a series of events to pay tribute to the legends of the past and present in the film industry.

The society wants to raise funds and create a separate corpus to achieve its objective, including assistance to indigent artistes.
