நாமக்கல் கவிஞர் வெ.ராமலிங்கம் பிள்ளை எழுதிய நாவலின் மூலக்கதையை தழுவி “மலைக்கள்ளன்” திரைப்படம் எடுக்கப்பட்டது. அதை படமாக்க ஸ்ரீராமுலு நாயுடு முடிவு செய்ததும், வசனம் எழுத கருணாநிதியை அழைத்தார். “பராசக்தி” வெளிவந்து, கருணாநிதி புகழேணியின் உச்சியில் இருந்த அந்த நேரத்தில் அவர் “மனோகரா” படத்துக்கு வசனம் எழுதிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

“நாமக்கல் கவிஞர் மீது எனக்கு மிகுந்த மரியாதை உண்டு. ஆனால், அவர் காங்கிரஸ்காரர். அவர் கதைக்கு நான் வசனம் எழுதினால், இரு தரப்பு ரசிகர்களும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வார்களா? என்று அஞ்சுகிறேன்” என்று கூறி, இந்தப் படத்துக்கு வசனம் எழுத கருணாநிதி மறுத்து விட்டார்.

இந்த சமயத்தில், எம்.ஜி.ஆரை ஸ்ரீராமுலு நாயுடு சந்தித்தார். “மலைக்கள்ளன் படத்திற்கு கருணாநிதி வசனம் எழுத வேண்டும், நீங்கள் நடிக்க வேண்டும் என்பது என் விருப்பம். ஆனால் அவர் வசனம் எழுத மறுத்துவிட்டார். நீங்கள் அவரை சம்மதிக்க வைத்தால், நான் மலைக்கள்ளனை தயாரிக்கிறேன். நீங்கள்தான் கதாநாயகன்” என்றார், ஸ்ரீராமுலு நாயுடு. அப்போது, நடிகர் டி.பாலசுப்பிரமணியமும் (வேலைக்காரியில் நடித்தவர்) உடன் இருந்தார்.

உடனே எம்.ஜி.ஆரும், டி.பாலசுப்பிரமணியமும் கருணாநிதியை சந்தித்தனர். “நாமக்கல் கவிஞர் காங்கிரஸ்காரர் என்றாலும், மலைக்கள்ளன் கதையில் எவ்வித கட்சிப் பிரசாரமும் இல்லை. நல்ல விறுவிறுப்பான நாவல். நீங்கள் வசனம் எழுதவேண்டும். எனக்கும் இந்தப்படத்தில் நடிக்கும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்கும்” என்று எம்.ஜி.ஆர். கூறினார்.

(1952 வரை காங்கிரஸ் அனுதாபியாக இருந்த எம்.ஜி.ஆரை, அண்ணாவிடம் நடிகர் டி.வி.நாராயணசாமி அழைத்துச்சென்று, அறிமுகப்படுத்தி வைத்தார். அண்ணாவால் கவரப்பட்ட எம்.ஜி.ஆர். தி.மு.க.வில் சேர்ந்தார். மலைக்கள்ளன் தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட காலத்தில் அவர் தி.மு.க.வில் இருந்தார்.)

கருணாநிதி யோசித்தார். மலைக்கள்ளன் கதையை அவர் ஏற்கனவே படித்திருந்தார். நிச்சயம் அது வெற்றிப்படமாக அமையும் என்பது அவருக்குத் தெரிந்தது. எனவே, வசனம் எழுத சம்மதித்தார்.

கட்சிப்பிரசாரம் எதுவும் இன்றி, மலைக்கள்ளனுக்கு கருணாநிதி வசனம் எழுதினார். இந்தப்படத்தில் அவர் வசனத்தில் அனல் பறக்கவில்லை; தென்றல் வீசியது. கதைக்கும், கதாபாத்திரங்களுக்கும் முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுத்து வசனத்தை எளிய- இனிய நடையில் எழுதியிருந்தார்.

முதல் முறையாக எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பல மாறுவேடங்களில் வந்து அசத்தினார். அவருடைய முழுத்திறமையும் இந்தப் படத்தில் பிரகாசித்தது.

எம்.ஜி.சக்ரபாணி, டி.எஸ்.துரைராஜ், ஈ.ஆர்.சகாதேவன், சந்தியா, சுரபி பாலசரஸ்வதி ஆகியோரும் நடித்தனர். மாம்பழ நாயுடு என்ற போலீஸ்காரர் கதாபாத்திரம் ஏற்ற டி.எஸ்.துரைராஜ், ரசிகர்களை வயிறு குலுங்க சிரிக்க வைத்தார்.

பாடல்களை நாமக்கல் கவிஞர் ராமலிங்கம் பிள்ளை, கு.மா.பாலசுப்பிரமணியம், தஞ்சை ராமையாதாஸ், மக்களன்பன் ஆகியோர் எழுதியிருந்தனர். எஸ்.எம்.சுப்பையா நாயுடு இசை அமைத்தார்.

பானுமதியை குதிரையில் அமரச் செய்து எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அழைத்துச் செல்லும் காட்சியில் இடம் பெற்ற “எத்தனை காலம்தான் ஏமாற்றுவார் இந்த நாட்டிலே” என்ற பாடலை கணீர் குரலில் டி.எம்.சவுந்தரராஜன் பாட, அது சூப்பர் ஹிட்டாக அமைந்தது. எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு டி.எம்.எஸ். குரல் மிகவும் பொருந்தியிருந்ததால், தொடர்ந்து அவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு பாடலானார்.

இவ்வகையில், மற்ற எந்தப் படத்துக்கும் கிடைக்காத தனிச்சிறப்பை “மலைக்கள்ளன்” பெற்றது.

தமிழ் மட்டுமின்றி இந்தி, தெலுங்கு, கன்னடம், மலையாளம், சிங்களம் ஆகிய மொழிகளிலும் இந்தப் படத்தின் கதை தயாரிக்கப்பட்டது. இந்தியில் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். நடித்த வேடத்தில் திலீப்குமார் நடித்தார்.

எல்லா மொழி கதாநாயகர்களும், எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் நடிப்பு பாணியை பின்பற்றியே நடித்தனர். 6 மொழிகளிலும் “மலைக்கள்ளன்” மகத்தான வெற்றி பெற்றான்.தமிழகமெங்கும் இந்த படம் வசூலில் மாபெரும் சாதனைகள் புரிந்து பல இடங்களில் 100 நாட்கள் மேல் ஓடியது .
மலைக்கள்ளன் வெற்றி மூலம் எம்ஜிஆரின் படஉலக மார்க்கெட் உச்சத்திற்கு சென்றது .

Subsequent to the timely action taken by Mr. Mayil Raj and Prof. Selvakumar & Co, a formal letter to Film Producers Council [Kalaipuli S. Thanu] was also submitted today by Urimaikural Magazine and all MGR Devotees requesting them to remove the controversial scene from “Trisha illaina Nayanthara”.

The producer and the PRO has also apologised to Prof. Selvakumar regarding the issue.

As requested, the Producer has now removed the trailer from “Youtube” and the producer has been called by the Producers Council with the clear intention to inform the Producer that the scene has to be removed from the Movie.










Nevertheless, we shall not remain calm till we are satisfied that they have removed that controversial scene from the Movie as well.

'விவசாயி' படம் படப்பிடிபிற்காக பிரசாத் ஸ்டுடியோவிற்கு காரில் வந்துக்கொண்டுயிருந்தார் புரட்சிதலைவர் .அவருடைய கார் கோடம்ப்பக்கம் சாலையில் வந்துக்கொண்டிருந்தது ,அப்போது அந்த சாலையில் ரோடு போடும் பணியில் பல தொழிலாளர்கள் ஈடுப்பட்டு கொண்டிருந்தார்கள் .அங்கே சாலையில் வேலை செய்பவர்கள் காலில் கோணிப் பைகளைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு தாரின் கடுமையான வெப்பத்தில் கஷ்டப்பட்டு வேலை செய்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள் .அதை பார்த்த புரட்சிதலைவர் காரை நிறுத்தினர் .அவர்களிடம் சென்ற தலைவர் ,' சாலையில் தார் ரோடு போடும் நீங்கள் ஏன் ஷு போட்டு கொள்ளவில்லை என்றார் ..வாங்குற சம்பளம் சாப்பாடுக்கே பத்தவில்லை அதனால் தான் என்று பதிலளித்தனர் ..உடனே வேலையாட்களின் மேனேஜரை அழைத்து கண்டித்த தலைவர் அவரிடம் ஐயாயிரம் ருபாய் அளித்து ,வேலை செய்யும் அணைத்து தொழிலாளர்களுக்கும் ஷு வாங்கிதர வேண்டும் என்று கண்டிப்புடன் கூறுகிறார் .. அடுத்து ஒரு மணி நேரத்தில் அங்கு வேலை செய்த நூறுக்கும் மேற்ப்பட்ட தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு ஷு
வழங்கப்படுகிறது .தொழிலாளர்கள் அனைவரும் தங்கள் கஷ்டத்தை புரிந்துகொண்ட உதவிசெய்த புரட்சித்தலைவருக்கு நன்றி தெரிவிக்கிறார்கள்

The crowning glory of the Coimbatore movie mogul S. M. Sriramulu Naidu's career was Malaikallan (1954). The film established M. G. Ramachandran as a box office hero. Besides Tamil, Naidu forged ahead to produce and direct Malaikallan in Telugu ( Aggi Ramudu), Malayalam ( Taskara Veeran), Kannada ( Bettadha Kalla), Hindi ( Azad) and Sinhala ( Soorasena).

The Hindi version Azad (the first film of Dilip Kumar as a swashbuckling hero, cast opposite Meena Kumari) proved a raving hit! (Years later, Naidu told this writer that he had dreams of making it in English but wiser counsel prevailed to his benefit!)

Malaikallan was written by the famous Tamil scholar and poet Namakkal Ramalingam Pillai, inspired by “Mark of Zorro” and “Robin Hood.” The screenplay and dialogue were by Mu. Karunanidhi. S. M. Subbaiah Naidu scored the music, while the lyrics were penned by Namakkal Ramalingam Pillai and Thanjai Ramaiah Das. Bhanumathi played the female lead well supported by D. Balasubramaniam, M. G. Chakrapani, T. S. Durairaj and P. S. Gnanam. The film won a Central Government award. The music also contributed to its success, with one of the songs, a satire on social conditions, ‘Ethanai kaalam thaan ematruvaar indha naatiley', becoming a hit. This song rendered off-screen by T. M. Soundararajan and filmed on MGR riding a horse set the trend for many future MGR movies which had similar thematic songs sung by TMS.

All the versions of Malaikallan were box office hits

Not many are aware that the multi-talented Tamil filmmaker A. P. Nagarajan was cast as a police inspector wearing a turban and all. However, after shooting some scenes with him, Naidu for some reason chose to replace him with M. G. Chakrapani.

Even after half a century and more, Malaikallan, one of the most memorable movies of Tamil Cinema, sustains interest and is often revived on television.

Remembered for: the popular storyline, tuneful music, excellent onscreen narration, and good performances by MGR and Bhanumathi.

“A forest set was put up with mountains and trees. Actor Bhanumathi entered humming a song. She threw a mango up in the air, and Malaikallan (played by MGR) caught it. Those days we had the ‘boom man’ to place mikes and record the sounds. As the shadow of the mike fell on the screen, I climbed up in my veshti and operated the mike. MGR noticed the difficulty of my attire ”

During the tea break (sweet, kaaram and coffee was served free) MGR summoned the studio tailor and ordered two pants. Two khaki trousers were ready the next day and Raju started wearing pants from then on
