Ammaavin sElai(mother’s sari)

When confronting strangers
Easy refuge to hide
Are the pleats in front.
To pull with adamant resistance
When playing pranks
And as rebellion against orders
And to play hide and seek
Furthermore to tuck into the mouth
With tears when a savoury or sweet
Burns the tongue irking down the throat
The pallu comes so handy.
My daughter’s tender fingers foever
Keep caressing my sari.
May you say ‘No’ to nightie
Be it for urban style
Or for trendy fashion.

Actually, almost nearing 60, an age in old times when it is one foot in the grave such thoughts are frequent. It is good to prepare oneself for the inevitable!!! Don't you see I have eliminated fear, pain & worry? It is a slow, gradual preparation, a process of acceptance. A sort of vanaprastham as our elders advised. These thoughts are undercurrents in a person who can wish/try to be a part of college camaraderie!

சலனமில்லா குட்டையில் இன்று அலையடிக்குது
வெறும் கூட்டில் காச் மூச் சத்தம் கேட்குது
பேரன்களிருவர் காலையில் வந்திறங்க
வீடு காணுது வெளிச்சமான விழக்கோலம்
ஒவ்வொரு பூரியையும் வெட்டினேன் ஒன்பதாக
வட்டமாக சதுரமாக முக்கோணமாக
உற்சாகமாய் உள்ளே இறங்கியது அதிகமாக
கணிணி என் கைக்கு கிடைக்கவேயில்லை
முழு ஆக்கிரமிப்பு மீதி நேரம்
வழக்கமான பிராட்பேண்ட் பிரச்சினை
நாளை மறுநாள் இன்னும் இரண்டு பேரன்கள் வந்திட
நிலைமை இன்னும் மோசமாகும் நிச்சயமாய்
இப்பொழுதே தரையில் கால் வைக்க இடமில்லை
இறைந்து கிடக்கும் பொம்மைகள் இடையில்
தவ்வி தவ்வி நடக்கிறோம் நுனிவிரலாலே
திங்களன்று இன்னொரு பேரனும் புதிய பெத்தியும்
வந்து சேர கோகுலமும் பிருந்தாவனமும் இங்கே
வருடத்தில் ஒரு வாரம் நடக்கும் உறவுகளின் சந்திப்பு
சொர்க்கத்தின் பூலோக பிரதிபலிப்பு அல்லவோ
