இலையென நம்மை ஏன் கருத ?
ஏறும் இறங்கும் சுரங்க்கள் என
என்றும் வாழ்வை இசையாக
எண்ணி வாழ்வோம் இசைபடவே

Thanx, Madhu, for the link! I am moved to tears after reading the wonderful story. It is a classic! Now I understand your instant association of the story with my kavithai.

I have also read repeatedly that the patient's desire to recover or the vice versa plays a big role in his recovery. More than medicine!

Let me confess my fear for pain. I hate it. I want to believe in painless dying!!! When I had conceived my first baby I was under the usual first timer's scare about the unknown experience of labour pain- seththu pizaikkum anupavam. I am a pet of my maternal grandmother whose advices I follow implicitly. When I discussed with her my fears she laughed indulgently- 10 piLLai peRRavaL- and told me the full mature baby at the right moment will smoothly come out like butter!!! Like a ripe fruit effortlessly detaching itself from the tree! This comforted me greatly, got etched in my mind & of course I breezed through the dreaded 'ordeal' with 2 more repeats!!!
The wisdom in her words keep coming back to my mind as I sometimes contemplate upon my future, my end ultimately- not a persisitent thought, no never, but a playful deliberation, a bold imagination, like any other topic. It is a sort of auto-suggestion, a willing of my destiny, that the inevitable shall be a peaceful affair. And hence the analogy of the withered leaf. As you rightly pointed out even tender leaves are mercilessly wrenched off the tree which point I have dealt in another English poem of mine.

Is there any particular age to think about death? My parents wrote their will when in their prime of health. My favourite Tamil seyyuL is 'pinnaiyE ninRathathu kooRRam enReNNi...' NeruppenRu sonnaal vaay venthuvidaathillaiyaa?
