Popular actress of yesteryears, E V Saroja, died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Chennai Friday, her family said.
Saroja, 71, was survived by a son and a daughter. She had over seventy films to her credit and was paired with the late M G Ramachandran and late Sivaji Ganesan in many films in the 1960s.
Her husband T R Ramanna, a popular film director, died a couple of years ago. Meanwhile, AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, in a statement, said she was deeply saddened to hear about the death of Saroja.
Her death is a great loss to the Tamil film world, she said and extended her condolences to members of the bereaved family.

The Telugu Film Producers council has proposed a ban on other language movies that get dubbed into Telugu. According to this post, the action has been taken to protect the interests of low budget movies and people employed in the indigenous movie industry. Tamil movies from Kamal Haasan, Rajnikanth, Mani Ratnam, Shankar, Surya & Vikram (and dubbed into Telugu) have a huge following in AP; with this ban, their bottom line could take a mighty hit.
Someone should put a thought to banning remakes from Telugu to Tamil. Not that they lack quality, but we ought to stop the trend of Tamil actors clamouring to reprint a hit Telugu script.
