Kannada : Nine-yr-old director eyes place in Guinness book
Mumbai: Nine-year-old wonder boy Kishan, who took the entertainment industry by surprise by stepping into the shoes of a director for film 'C/O Footpath', is eyeing a place in the Guinness book of world records as the youngest film director.

The youngster making the film in Kannada, slated to be released in March, has roped in none other than noted Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff to play a pivotal role in the film.

The research team of the Guinness book of world records has accepted Kishan's application. The record is presently held by Lord Sydney Ling from Netherlands who directed his first movie 'Lex the Wonder Dog' at the age of 13 in 1973.

On the sets of the film where he shot a few sequences with Jackie last evening, Kishan told mediapersons that the story of his film is inspired by true life incidents reported in newspapers.

Besides direction, Kishan has written the story and also plays the lead role of a nine-year-old orphan living in slums.

On the film's protagonist, Kishan said, ''He is a rag-picker and lives with an old lady. He aspires to go to school. His fellow rag pickers laugh at his dream, but the boy's determination makes him invent a new method of learning.'' ''He befriends school children and pleads with them to teach him the alphabets. Soon, he begins to run small errands for the children and the teachers. In return, they teach him whatever they can and give him old books to learn. The boy turns out to be a child prodigy and begins to learn faster than the school children,'' Kishan added.

Like a seasoned filmmaker, he explained, ''How the boy gets through the tenth standard examination is the crux of the story.'' He said Jackie Shroff plays the role of a Chief Minister, who is drawn by the story of the young boy and helps him at a crucial juncture.

Besides Jackie and himself, Kannada actress Tara and actor Saurabh Shukla are the other actors in the film.
