where is "mudhal mariyadhai" in the list.
As far as tamil film industry people, even now they say that, M M re-recording is the best & cannot be reproduced in future.
Basically for good bgm, u need a good story & screenplay, which is not available in today's trend.
Another notable film is "Mullum Malarum" (another M M)

A.R.Rahman's debut in TFM roja have reveloutioned the tamil film music once again after the Maestro's Era.This movie has some amazing tracks such as "Kaathal rojave enge", "Puthu vellai mazai" and "Tamizha Tamizha". Though it has crap like "Rukumani" and rhymic "Chinna chinna aasai", songs were well received by audiences and had remarkable sound engineering. ARR got his first National award for this film .

Minnale was aimed for Younger generation, It had hit songs like "Vaseegara", "Aye azakiya theeye", "Nenjai poopol" and pathos "Venmathi".Songs were hits in the market commercially.

Indeed a great album by T.Rajendar and another person(?). The album is packed with 7 tracks, with amazing 3 numbers "Vasamilla malarithu", "Idhu kuzainthai paadum", "naanoru". though others are just craps.

ARR's one of the greatest albums.Tracks such as "Thaniye", "Nadhiye", "Katre" were hits and with explicit lyrics.

A good film with mesmerising numbers. This albums "Naan aanaiyittal" have travelled each and every corners of Tamil nadu. Other hit tracks are "Kumari pennin" and "naan manthoppil".

Illayaraja's one of the best album during his earlier days. This movie is an average movie,But with some scintillating numbers. "Illamaiyennum Poongatru", "Ponnaram poovaaram", "Thaamtha dheemtha", "Kaliyo" and "Thottam konda". Ilamaiyennum poongatru was far ahead of its times with great guitar chords and piano.All the songs were popular, even the gana sytle folk song "Thottam konda".

The one and only tamil film that ran in all A,B,C centres. Good album with folky numbers."Mankuyile poonkuyile" was an instant hit. Other tracks such as "Intha maan", "Kudagu malai", were super hits.

Uyire had some dancing numbers such as "Thaga thayya", "Nenjinile", "En uyire" and melodies "Poongatrile", "Santhosa kanneere".

Btw should not this thread be in current topics?
Anyways that would be hard as each album lets say the good ones might be done to suit the film and of a different genre and you cant really compare and rank them. Somemore older movies (Pre IR) had some brilliant soundtracks usually semiclassical which were good. Quite hard for me

I think THIRUVILAYADAL &THILLANNA MOGANAMBAL sound tracks are ever green. Even today sound track of these movies are popular and aired most number of times.
