ஆரம்ப காலத்தில், ஜெமினி ஸ்டுடியோவில் நிர்வாகப் பொறுப்பு பணியில் ஜெமினிகணேசன் இருந்த போது, அவருக்கு நடிப்பு மேல் தான் ஆசை இருந்தது. அதனால், ஜெமினி ஸ்டுடியோவை விட்டு விலகி, நாராயணன் கம்பெனியில், மாதம், 1,000 ரூபாய் சம்பளத்திற்கு நடிக்க அழைத்த போது, தயக்கத்துடன் ஒப்புக் கொண்டார். முதல் படம், தாய் உள்ளம். வில்லன் வேடம் தான் கிடைத்தது.

தொடர்ந்து, நாராயணன் கம்பெனியின் உரிமையாளர் நாராயணன் , கணவனே கண் கண்ட தெய்வம் என்ற படத் தயாரிப்பில் ஈடுபட்டார். அதில் கதைப்படி கதாநாயகனுக்கு, வீரம் நிறைந்த வாலிபன் மற்றும் கூன் விழுந்து, அருவருப்பான முகம் கொண்ட இரு வேறுபட்ட வேடம். அதை அழகான தோற்றம் கொண்ட ஜெமினி கணேசனால் செய்ய முடியுமா என்று சந்தேகப்பட்டார் தயாரிப்பாளர்.

இதை அறிந்த ஜெமினி கணேசன் ஒரு தந்திரம் செய்தார். அவரே ஒரு மேக்கப் மேனிடம் சென்று, கூன் விழுந்து அருவருப்பான பிச்சைக்காரன் போன்ற தோற்றத்தில், யாரும் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியாத அளவுக்கு மேக்கப் போட்டுக் கொண்டார்.

அந்த தோற்றத்துடன், காலை நேரத்தில் தயாரிப்பாளர் வீட்டு வாசலில் நின்றார். ஏதோ பிச்சைக்காரன் என நினைத்து, அந்த வீட்டில் இருந்தவர்கள் கண்டு கொள்ளவில்லை. ஆனால், எதிர்பாராதவிதமாக திடீரென்று வீட்டிற்கு உள்ளேயே நுழைந்து விட்டார்.

அந்த சமயத்தில், கம்பெனி முதலாளி நாராயண ஐயங்கார், ஜெமினியை அடையாளம் தெரியாமல் பிச்சைக்காரர் என நினைத்து, திட்டி, வெளியே போகுமாறு விரட்டினார். நிலைமை விபரீதமாகும் முன், வேறு வழி இல்லாமல், "நான் தாங்க கணேசன்...' என்று வேடத்தை கலைத்து, சிரித்தபடி நின்ற ஜெமினியை பார்த்து, பிரமித்து போனார் தயாரிப்பாளர்.

"நீங்க என் மீது சந்தேகப்பட்டீர்கள் இல்லையா? கூன் வேடத்திற்கு நான் பொருத்தமானவன் என்று, நீங்கள் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளத்தான், நான் அப்படி நடித்தேன்...' என்று சொன்ன போது, ஜெமினியை கட்டி அணைத்துக் கொண்டார். "கண்டிப்பாக நீதான் நடிக்கிறாய்...' என்று உறுதி அளித்தார். அஞ்சலி தேவியுடன், ஜோடி சேர்ந்து நடித்த, கணவனே கண்கண்ட தெய்வம் வெள்ளி விழா கொண்டாடி, சாதனை படைத்தது.

வீரபாண்டிய கட்டபொம்மன் படத்தில், வெள்ளையத்தேவன் கதாபாத்திரத்திற்கு, முதலில், எஸ்.எஸ்.ராஜேந்திரன் தான் ஒப்பந்தம் செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தார். அவர் நடிக்க முடியாமல் போகவே, ஜெமினியை தேடி வந்தனர். " என்னால் நடிக்க முடியவில்லை...' என எஸ்.எஸ்.ராஜேந்திரனிடமிருந்து கடிதம் வாங்கி வந்தால் தான் ஒப்புக்கொள்வேன்...' என்று டைரக்டர் பி.ஆர்.பந்துலுவிடம் சொல்லி விட்டார் ஜெமினி. அவரும் கடிதத்தோடு வந்த பின்தான், நடிக்க ஒப்புக் கொண்டார்.

இப்போதெல்லாம் ஒரு நடிகர், நடிகைக்கு கிடைக்கும் வாய்ப்பை, மறைமுகமாக தட்டி பறித்து, இன்னொரு நடிகர், நடிகை அதில் நடிப்பது சாதாரணமாகிவிட்டது. ஆனால், அந்த காலத்தில் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் விட்டுக் கொடுப்பர் என்பதற்கு மேற்கூறிய சம்பவம் ஒரு உதாரணம்.

ஜெமினி கணேசன் அவர்களின் திரைக்காதல் பாடல் காட்சியமைப்புக்களில் பெரும்பாலானவற்றில் இன்றியமையாததாகவும் தவிர்க்கமுடியாததாகவும் இடம்பெறும் காட்சித்துளிகள் நிலவும் படகும் !

Through her home productions, Anjali Devi as the heroine offered the anchor to GG's life-ship to endure with Tamil Screen with his cult image as the demi-God of Love!

Penn (1954) projected this Love missile into his orbit...thereafter no looking back till he landed on his song favourite Moon showering the limelight of screen magic on him as the forever King of Love!

Anjali Devi (24 August 1927 – 13 January 2014) was an Indian actress, former model and producer in Telugu and Tamil. She was well known for her role as the mythological Sita in Lava Kusha as well as for the titular roles in movies like Suvarna Sundari and Anarkali.

Early life
Anjali Devi was born in Peddapuram, East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, India, as Anjamma. She changed her name to Anjani Kumari when acting in dramas. Later, director C. Pullaiah changed her name to Anjali Devi.

Career
As actress
She was a theatre artiste before venturing into movies. Her debut film role was as Lohitasya in Raja Harishchandra in 1936. Her first movie as a heroine was Kashtajeevi by L. V. Prasad in 1940, but that movie was abandoned after three reels shooting. Later, C.Pullayya discovered her and gave her the opportunity to star as Mohini in Gollabhama. Based on her acting ability and looks, she became a star overnight in 1947. She eventually acted in more than 350 Telugu films and a few Tamil and Kannada films as the heroine.

She acted in Lava Kusha, a milestone film and the first color film in the Telugu film industry in 1963. She is well known for playing Sita in Lava Kusha and her performances in films like Suvarna Sundari and Anarkali were also appreciated. She has acted in nearly 500 films. Brundavanam (1992), Anna Vadina (1993) and Police Alludu (1994) were the last few films of her career. In Balaiah's Police Alludu and Anna Vadina she appeared alongside Brahmanandam. She acted in various roles, such as a damsel, an angel, a dancer, a demon, a goddess, a traditional woman and later in mother roles.

As producer
In 1955 she produced the film Anarkali, in which she herself played the titular role, with Akkineni Nageswara Rao as Prince Salim. Then she produced V. Madhusudan Rao's Bhakta Tukaram and Chandipriya. Bollywood and Tollywood actress Jayapradha played the lead role in the latter alongside Shobhan Babu and Chiranjeevi. As a producer she has produced 27 films. She was an ardent devotee of Sathyasai Baba and produced a tele-serial on Sathyasai.

Personal life
She married P. Adinarayana Rao, a music director, in 1940. They settled in Chennai. They have two sons. Together, they produced many Telugu films under the banner, Anjali Pictures. Their granddaughter, Saila Rao, is also an actress.

Death
She died at the age of 86 on 13 January 2014 at Vijaya Hospital, in Chennai, with her organs donated to Ramachandra Medical College.

Penn is a 1954 Tamil romantic comedy film written by Ra. Venkatachalam and directed by M. V. Raman. The film starred Vyjayanthimala, Gemini Ganesan, S. Balachander and Anjali Devi in the lead while Chittor V. Nagaiah, V. K. Ramasamy, K. N. Kamlam, K.R. Chellam and K. Sankarapani as the ensemble cast, was produce by A. V. Chettiar of AVM Productions. The film's score was composed by R.Sudharsanam with the lyrics were provided by Papanasam Sivan and Udumalai Narayana Kavi, Ku. Sa. Krishnamurthy, K. P. Kamakshi and V. Seetharaman. Editing was done by K. Shankar and M. V. Raman while the camera was handled by T. Muthu Sami.

The film's story revolves around two friends played by Vyjayanthimala and Anjali Devi.

The success of this movie basked the producer A. V. Chettiar to remade it in Hindi as Ladki with Kishore Kumar and Bharat Bhushan in S. Balachander and Gemini Ganesan role respectively. The film also made simultaneously in Telugu as Sangham with N. T. Rama Rao in Gemini Ganesan's role while S. Balachander reprises his role from the original. Among the cast Vyjayanthimala, Anjali Devi and Chittor V. Nagaiah are the only actors to reprises their role in all three language.
