Am glad I finally found a thread where others appreciate music from these time periods

    Watched "Policekaran Magal"

A number of firsts for me
first movie with Chandrababu I saw, was a delight to see him and Manorama
especially during their "Poranthalum" duet...too cute, their expressions and the lyrics...I feel nowadays that I've stopped paying attention to lyrics, they seem repetitive or seem to collect pleasant sounding/situation appropriate words and put them in order...of course there (Thank goodness) many exceptions to this!!

first duet I saw that it was sis/bro even in sad verison

Overall came out thinking what a wretched character that Balaji had to play
everyone seemed so damn helpless especially Vijyakumari and of course the overly weak nature attributed to females, their overpowering sorrows and due fatal illness...haha cynicism much?

    But the songs

"Pon Enbane Siru Poo Enbane"...PBS's voice is so deep and melodious, such a haunting quality to it...Janaki's voice timid and modest...beautiful! I liked how their perspective views of their marriage were pictured, with religious figures for Vijayakumari while for Balaji, he only imagines said heroine in various outfits...saree,stylish salwar, skirt and blouse.

"Indha Mandrathil" song is even in the sad version very lilting and sweet...inextinguishable in its optimistic sounding..would be an injustice to not mention how wonderful P.Susheela is!

The major pathos song "Kannale Neer Etharku" I feel the poignant lyrics totally overtook the song, in a good way though.

Maybe because it was a tv movie...missed the popular" Nilaavukku En Mel Enaadi Kovam" a fave of mine ...knew this song long before...bgm flute has the perfect sprightly touch

    Pathu Maadham Sumakkavillai (pEsum Deivam)

starts off as a lulling slow & restful tempo then goes on into a slow-slow-quick-quick folk rhythm
combining two musical styles into one
KVM's creative concept imbued with expressions and emotions that holds the listener's attention throughout
while keeping their very own methodically melodic atmosphere
music and soulful lyrics blend into an innovative combination and the unique collaboration of
slow fast singers TMS PS ! the feeling ,
the modulation and the perfect pitch make this song so accessible

KVM had given some wonderful Deivam series like
    Aadavantha Deivam
    Kan Kanda Deivam
    Vazha Vaitha Deivam
    Naan Vanangum Deivam ...
and pEsum Deivam - is no exception
Vaali wrote the songs , real good songs in the movie

Pathu Maadham Sumakkavillai , neither rare nor obscure compared to songs like
nooraandu kaalam vaazhga ..pillai selvamE from the same movie but
certainly overshadowed by the popularity of other gems like
azhagu deivam mella mella , naan anuppuvadhu kaditham , idhaya oonjal aadavaa
performance by Sivaji Ganeshan and Padmini can't ask for more
    to watch
    http://s871.photobucket.com/albums/ab272/1tfml/KVM/

*aathaa ' expression seldom used in those days and i must say
it has perfectly served its purpose and TMS's vocal sounds convincingly natural

    Regards

    Kaatrai Kaiyil Pidithavanillai,
    Thootri Thootri vaazhdavanillai.

    What lines!

Tks TFM Lover. At last I was able to see the video of this song. NT looks different and on horseback, must have been a novelty for a social film. And what a set of songs! Can we imagine such songs any more, impossible!

Tks a million and again reminding you of your promise abt "Vaazhkai odam". Am very fond of this duet. The prelude is enchanting, BTW who is the MD/

TFMLover bowled over with your collection(?) of yesteryear movie posters!

Oh yes please if you could do repost "Vazhkai oru Odam" song...I have only heard Malathi sing it and never seen the orig. clip/movie myself.

Thanks for your write up for Policekaran Magal

Have been on the lookout (sluggish at best) for what movie the song "Kaatru Vanga Ponen" my Amma use to always sing this song, and I as a child use to pester her with questions like "how do you buy wind?" "how much does it cost?" "why is taking a stroll like buying wind?" "why did he forget and buy a poem instead?" and such and such inquisitiveness she had to put up with

anyways found that it is from "Kalangarai Vilakkam" which contains another one of my fave songs, "Ponnezhil Poothathu"....TMS's voice sounds so soft, gentle and melodious, it gives such an intimate effect

not to mention the famous "Sange Muzhangu"

    Hi TFM Lover,

Tks a million for "Kangalinaal Kaanbadellam", a wonderful solo by PS. Am hearing this song for the first time in my life, and it blew me away. Like you said it's great singing with gusto by PS and the humming of TMS, as you say, is brilliant. BTW why was this song not picturised?

And talking of humming, as you say this must be the only time TMS has only been used for humming in a song, but as you might have seen he joins PS for a brief while, a sec or so, after each stanza. And therein lies MSV's imagination, I guess.

Normally we have been used to TMS singing and L R Eswari used for humming, in unforgettable nos. like Pavalakodiyile in Panam Padaithavan and Kallellam Maniikka in Aalayamani. This song is the exact opposite.

And once again I'm taking the chance to remind you of your promise of "Vaazhkai Odam" video.

    Regards

    Ramaswamy
