- Is it the one who claims IR's music is superior, after listening to a variety of music forms...

- Or the one who dismisses IR's music as simply "tabla-wala" "dappAnguththu" "idli-sAmbAr of Ratna cafe" etc, without listening to the range and variety of score he has actually done in his carrier (and in turn term all IRF's as "frogs-in-the-well")?

இந்தத் தமிழ் வெகுஜன சினிமாவைச் சேர்ந்த படத்துக்கு, அதன் சட்டகத்தில் மிக அற்புதமான இசையை இளையராஜா அளித்திருக்கிறார். மீண்டும் தமிழ் சினிமா சட்டகத்தை மீறாமல், அதற்குள் ஒரு மேதைக்கு மட்டுமே சாத்தியமாகக் கூடியதைத் தந்திருக்கிறார். ‘இளையராஜா இல்லாமல் நந்தலாலா இல்லை’ என்று மிஷ்கின் சொல்வதில் எந்த மிகையும் இல்லை.
ஒரு தற்கொலைப் படையை உருவாக்கும் அளவுக்கு இளையராஜா மீது அதீத பற்றுகொண்ட கூட்டம் இங்கே இருக்கிறது. அவர்கள் எதிர்பார்த்து தவம் கிடப்பதற்கு வரம் எளிதில் கிடைப்பதில்லை. அதனால் ‘நந்தலாலா’ போன்ற நிகழ்வுகளின்போது சற்று மிகையாக அதைக் கொண்டாடுகிறார்கள். என்னைப் பொறுத்தவரை இளையராஜா ஏற்கெனவே அளித்த பல அற்புதங்களின் தொடர்ச்சியாக இந்தப் படத்திலும் இசையளித்திருக்கிறார். இது, இதற்கு முன்னால் நடக்காத அதிசயம் இல்லை.
மீண்டும் ஒரு கலைப்பட வகை சார்ந்த பின்னணி இசையை எதிர்பார்த்துப் பார்ப்பவர்களுக்கு, படத்தின் ஒரு பாத்திரமாகப் பரவிய இசை சில இடங்களில் நெருடலாம். ஆனால் இது கலைப்படம் என்று சொல்வது ஒரு பொய் என்பதை உணர்ந்து, தமிழ்ப் படமாகப் பார்த்தால், மிகப் பொருத்தமான இசையை, தேவையான இசையை, இந்திய திரைப்பரப்பில் வேறு யாருக்கும் சாத்தியமாகாத இசையை இளையராஜா அளித்திருப்பதை அறியலாம். தமிழ்ப் பார்வையாளர்கள் அதை உணர்ந்து கொண்டதை படத்தின் போதும், படத்துக்கு வெளியிலேயான பேச்சிலும் உணர முடிகிறது. மிஷ்கினும் அதை உணர்ந்து இளயராஜாவுக்கு உரிய மரியாதை செய்திருப்பது மகிழ்வைத் தருகிறது.
இசையைப் பற்றித் தங்களுக்கு ஏதேனும் தெரியும் என்பதற்குத் தடயம் எதையும் வைத்திராதவர்கள் சொல்வதை, ஒரு ஜனநாயக உரிமையாகச் சொல்வதற்கு அவர்களுக்கு அளித்து விட்டு, புறக்கணிப்பதைத் தவிர செய்ய வேண்டியது வேறு இல்லை.

வேகமான கிராமிய தாளக்கருவிகள், நாதஸ்வர இசை, துள்ளும் தந்திக்கருவிகள் அனைத்தும் சேர்ந்து ஒலிக்கும். “இசை - இளையராஜா (அறிமுகம்)” என்ற இடத்தில் மட்டும் இந்த இசைக்கருவிகள் விநாடிக்கும் குறைவான நேரம் அமைதியாகி, மீண்டும் உற்சாகமாக அத்திரைப்படத்தின் துடிப்பான பாடலான ‘மச்சான பாத்தீங்களா’ பாட்டின் துடிப்பான பகுதிகளை இசைக்கத் தொடங்கும். கிராமிய இசையிலிருந்து இந்தப் பாட்டின் மெலடிக்கு மாறும் தருணத்தின் பொருத்தம் ஒரு புதிய இசையமைப்பாளர் தமிழில் களமிறங்கியிருக்கிறார் என்பதை கவனிக்க வைப்பதாய் இருக்கும். .

Response from a couple (husband - oboe player, wife - flutist, both work for a symphony orchestra!) in my neighborhood to whom I had lent NANDALALA DVD :

"we watched a LITTLE bit! Beautiful music, and beautiful film--Loved the opening credits with the water grasses waving in the current,--or tide? The music as the children are coming out of school, with the main character at center, very nice!
We got as far as the bus station--the boy and the crazy escaped guy are trying to get on a bus?"

Nandhalala IS the movie of the year!!!!

Finally managed to watch this movie....! Oh my God, what a movie!
A round of huge applause to Myskin. Also to the excellent cinematographer - ennappaa angles. Awesome! And the kid! What a stunning performance. And without fail, Ilaiyarajaa! arumaiyaana score.

No other movie comes close, not even Aadukkalam.
And whats more, all my children - teenagers - loved the movie and want to watch again.

Not many movies can make me emotional like this. Simply brilliant!
