So it appears that the much speculated Ponniyan Selvan by Maniratnam will NOT have music by Ilaiyaraaja: http://articles.timesofindia.indiati...mani-sir-tamil

why why? ennaathukku pre conceived notions?
let them start the project, with or without Raaja, it will be a project worth waiting for.

There is harakiri all around regarding the casting of Ponnoyin Selvan..No one really knows the true picture until a formal announcement is made..The funny thing is Hindu said its gonna be Maestro and PC Sreeram for camera whereas Times of India have said its ARR and Santosh Sivan as Cinematographer..Cant really understand whats goin on..

As confirmed by people close to Mani, the man tried his best to rope in both Raja and Rahman and that didnt materialise for obvious reasons.

The 'Obvious Reasons' suggests that Raaja didnt accept the offer and its very bad on his part. Now come to think of it, that he accepts the offer and says that he compose the whole song including tune and orchestration (Raajas strong point) and ARR does Arrangements & Additional programming (ARR's strong Point) would ARR accept this?

I am sure that bringing Raja and Rahman together was only for the business reasons and its not a very good idea in terms of the productivity. Either mani should go for Raja or Rahman because both these gentlemen have contrasting styles of working, composing. They shud not be disturbed just for giving an additional mileage to the project. I am happy that this didn't materialize.
