A lilting to song to begin the week ! :)
A song from the movie Aah(1953):
sunte ti naam hum
Aah ws dubbed into Tamil as 'avan' with all tunes in tact. The Tamil versions fo the songs were translations of the Hindi lyrics. All songs were popular. I will post a song I liked most and still sing - Raja ki aayegi baraat !

Great songs shared in memory of one and only charismatic Dev Anand ji. He is not a great actor, but a great 'Guide' for our life.
rajraj sir, thank you for 'sunte te naam hum jinka bahar'. Lata ji and her mesmerizing voice, unbeatable.
Sunil, Wow! I have not heard this. Thank you for sharing this rare gem. velvety talat ji. sugamo sugam!.

Even though Dev Anand ji left us, these memories of him will never leave us. Missing you so much. Sharing some gems of Dev ji from Patita (1953) scored by Shankar-Jaikishan ji. Lyrics by Shailendra ji. My favorite lyricist. How charming Dev ji is. Always he is.
Patita - Yaad Kiya Dil Ne Kahan - Lata, Hemant Kumar (lilting duet with a soft hemant ji voice). The coolest actor ever. See how he casually acts with cigarette in his hand and lying back lazily with a beautiful smile on his face.
Patita - Hain Sabse Madhur Woh Geet - Talat Mahmood . This song comes to my mind whenever I think of Dev Anand ji. What a lovely lyrics by Shailendra ji. Nothing like this now. All shattered music scenario.
Patita - Andhe Jahan Ke - Talat Ji (Not picturized on Dev ji, but a superb song from the same film).
Two great Lata solos, one happy and another one a sad one, but listen how Lataji brings the contrasting moods. Legend!
Patita - Kisi Ne Apnab - Lata
Patita - Mitti Se Khelte Ho - Lata
Brings back great memories of Dev Anand ji!

A ghazal for the weekend
We listened to a qawwali and a thumri. Time for a ghazal!
here is one by Noor Jahan from the (Pakistani) movie Mere Hazoor:
Hamari sanson mein aaj tak woh......
A better audio version:
I listened to several ghazals by Noor Jahan. For some reason this one stayed with me!
Same ghazal by Mehdi Hassan:
Have a good weekend!

From the days of bullock carts! :)
Sunil posted a song from Sansar (1951). Sansar is the Hindi version of Samsaram(Tamil) (1950) and Samsaram(Telugu). Most of the songs were popular and searched for more. I found this song which brought back memories of my childhood days when we used to ride a bullock cart from a railway station in Tanjore district to our ancestral village during summers. I still remember the ride on a dirt road along a river. Here is the Hindi song:
khat khat khat gaadi rook rahe hai.....
Here is the Tamil version(the video is different):
kada kada loda loda vaNdi.......
Bullock carts are becoming extinct. I hope somebody opens a part with these carts for joy rides!
