Did Rajini act -ve role other than against Kamal? Oh yes, for a good part of his initial days as hero, he was in touch with his grey side until he was hyper-cleaned and domesticated into a super-do-gooder-innocent-wronged-man-triumphing-in-the-end. He had huge negative shades in nerrikann, pretty much terrorising every female in sight. It is a miracle Chakravarthy felt oh-so-holy about d-i-l Menaka to not consider her as another conquest - perhaps Menaka being plain jane Menaka had something to do with it. There were negative shades in Polladhavan. Being forced to woo a past-the-prime Sripriya(I am oblivous to the irony of saying that about Rajini who wooed ishwarya 3 decades later) and being offerred Lakshmi as the vengala kinnam is a good excuse for angst and anti-social tendency, though. Atleast, the child wasn't baby shalini which explains his reformation towards the end of the movie. Then there is Bhairavi where, as Grouch explained, Rajini played real-life and reel-life villain to a poor little lamb which ended up in his dinner plate.I believe there are movies with sivakumar as hero, which is reason enough for him to become the villain in those movies.
