மணிரத்னத்தின் முதல் படமான பகல் நிலவு தொடங்கி அவரது மெகா ஹிட் படங்களான மெளனராகம், நாயகன், அக்னிநட்சத்திரம், தளபதி என்று பல படங்களுக்கு இசையமைத்தவர் இளையராஜா. ஆனால் 1990-களில் அவர்களது நட்பில் விரிசல் விழுந்ததையடுத்து ஏ.ஆர்.ரகுமானை தனது ரோஜா படத்தில் அறிமுகம் செய்தார் மணிரத்னம். அதன்பிறகுதான் இளையராஜா-மணிரத்னத்தின் பிரிவு நிரந்தரமானது.

இந்த நிலையில், மும்பையில் இளையராஜா இசையமைத்து வந்த ஒரு ஒலிப்பதிவு கூடத்தில் அவரை சந்தித்திருக்கிறார் டைரக்டர் மணிரத்னம். கிட்டத்தட்ட 21 ஆண்டுகளாக பிரிந்து செயல்பட்ட அவர்கள் இணையும் முதல் சந்திப்பு இது. அதனால் மணிக்கணக்கில் இருவரும மனம் விட்டு பேசியதாககூட கூறப்படுகிறது.

இதையடுத்து, மீண்டும் அவர்கள் இருவரும் திரைப்படங்களில் இணைந்து பணியாற்றுவதற்கான சூழல் உருவாகியிருப்பதாக கோடம்பாக்கத்தில் பேசிக்கொள்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் இந்த செய்தி எந்த அளவுக்கு சாத்தியமாகும் என்று இளையராஜா தரப்பை விசாரித்தபோது, மீண்டும் மணிரத்னத்துடன் இளையராஜா இணைய சான்சே இல்லை. நீண்டகாலத்துக்கு பிறகு சந்தித்ததால் மரியாதை நிமித்தமாக பேசியிருக்கிறார்கள்அவ்வளவுதான் என்கிறார்கள்.

IR has moved on a long way than IR vs Directors controversy. We cannot contain him or his music only with few directors where he has given super hits. If you count others who has done one or two movies, (Songs / BGM)account more HITS than the notable directors. Moreover all the directors whom always we associate with IR is neither in the cine field nor giving hits, as of now. It could be one of the reason, IR was always (SOUL) worked or searched for New Directors/Different Storyline from the beginning. Some associated (lasted) with him for Long time and more vanished in the middle, but his music always stood Tall. When directors were in the career beginning, they needed IR Music for their movies and for their identity. Once they grew, they might have felt IR name and his music is dominating than their identity, they moved and opted out for someone else. In my personal opinion, discussion on comparison of IR vs directors is no more valid. Instead, we will sit , relax and enjoy the Music in their movie combination.

Sticking to his tried and tested combo, Mani Ratnam has approached Oscar Award winner AR Rahman to compose the music. It comes as no surprise as the director's movies in the last decade has the music of Mozart of Madras. There were reports that Ilaiyaraaja would be scoring tunes for the mega-budget project but now the buzz says that it is Rahman, who has bagged Mani's project again.

Once they grew, they might have felt IR name and his music is dominating than their identity, they moved and opted out for someone else. In my personal opinion, discussion on comparison of IR vs directors is no more valid. Instead, we will sit , relax and enjoy the Music in their movie combination.

Madhan, you revealed the ugly truth , yes they indeed feel that IR's cloud will dominate their identity as a director/actor, his so called close friends Kamal, Rajini, BR all do the same selfish attitude. Only reviting reply should be movies should go un noticed. But, nowadays who wants to hear soulful songs they are busy with other things in their gadgets.

I am content with exploring IR songs , and each time i get something new with goosebumps , the latest song discovered is , "Ilam pani thuli vedum neeram" from the movie "Aaradhanai" sung by Radhika ---- A master composition , each instrument do its own Allabanai.

I am just hooked on to the "maestro's background score" album from itunes. The Azhagarsami Kuthriai score, Pandavaas, Cheeni Kum, Lajja scores are outstanding - And interestingly when all this Maniratnam news comes about, the album also has scores from Mouna raagam, Anjali and Nayagan - it shows what MR is missing - the Jeevan in those scores - Intesreting he has had many flops aftr his split with IR - Thiruda Thiruda, iruvar, Dil se, Ayudha Ezhuthu, Ravanan, Kadal
