Yaaruda Mahesh (Tamil - 2013)
Written & Directed by R. Madhan Kumar
Starring Jagan - others I dont know
Its quite rare that I talk about a film without giving its synopsis. This film needs special attention, to avoid any unecessary disappointments and complaints - Rated R for sexual content & language. That said, here is what "Who is Mahesh" all about :
Shiva and Vasanth are youngsters who are trying hard to come out of "teenage". Their behaviours towards life and girls are purely related to sex and nothing else. But not in a wrong way, just the (ab)normal feeling of a "youth". Shiva meets Sindhya and they get to know each other quite fast, also quite speedy in taking their relation to next level. Sindhya is a college first -and-you-have-got-it-right Shiva is a lagger. Things turn nasty when their parents know their affair, this time when Shiva gets Sindhya pregnant. What follows next are the episodes of the young couple's life, how Mahesh finds a place in their life and how Shiva finds "Who is Mahesh".
What trailer promises, you find them in the movie. But whats necessary - the story - is completely missing. There are "double meaning" comments, but compared to few scenes and dialogues, you start to wonder whether to use the term "double meaning". People who are interested in these kind of jokes, this movie is a boon. Having shades of American Pie everywhere, Madhan Kumar thought it would be a "different" attempt for "tamil audience" + could get a "easy name" amoung the teens. But one thing for sure, in the lines of KSR or Sundar C, he is also obsessed with certain parts of woman hood, and at his command the camera has wandered without any restriction.
Having talked about the joke types, Jagan really comes as a break from santhanam. Eventhough he has brought back his "Kadavul Paadhi Mirugam Paadhi" act again, he is still adorable, atleast in this role. He telling that the hero is "Veluthupona Vishal" was really funny. The Hero on the other hand looks a bit timid, but does pull out a decent performence. The parents are a joke, as usual, but its true that the long dad-son seemingly funny episodes are limited here, and they have jumped to the next level.
Nothing else is not worthy, except for the humour, as quite a few jokes does evoke laughter. The opening was promising, but as minutes, no, as seconds pass by, the movie took a routine route.
Yaaruda Mahesh : Not worth finding out.

Iron Man Three
Written (based on Iron Man by Stan Lee) & Directed by (Screen Writer) Shane Black
Banner : Marvel Studios
Starring :
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Strak / Iron Man
Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts
Don Cheadle as Colonel Rhodes / Iron Man Patriot
Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian
Rebecca Hall as Dr. Maya Hansen
Ben Kingsley as Mandarin !?!
The arms free market is flourishing, thanks to the initiatives of Tony Stark, that the US army have integrated "Iron Man Patriot" to fight single handedly terrorism. But it does not stop the "villans" to come out with newer plans and scientific strategies to attack US. Meanwhile Tony is nervous and inosomaniac due to the aftermaths of Avengers. Like all heroes, he uses it for his benifits - he creates Iron Man upgrade versions which are more than a suit in a suitcase (watch Iron Man 2). Bombings occur ramdomly killing "Americans", but there are no clue or evidence on the bomb or bombing sites. Enters Mandarin (remember The Ten Rings ?), hacking the Satellite TV networks, and threatening LIVE the US spectators. All hope are put on Iron Man Patriot, but when Tony's trusted bodygaurd (Happy Hogan) is wounded in one such bomb blast, he challenges Mandarin thru media to come and get him from his Stark Towers. Thus a huge attack in launched by Mandarin, which puts Tony in his iron man suit deep under the sea. The events explain the mysterious bomb blasts and we are suddenly left with "side-villans" glowing as furnaces. Tony escapes, finds who are these mysterious people, fights with his own fear, and gets the task of rescuing his girlfriend as well as the kidnapped President. But will Iron Man defeat Mandarin ?
After the epic fails this year - Die Hard 6, GI Joe 2, Obvilion - Iron Man Three comes as a savior of "summer block busters". The auto Iron Suit is cool, just as the reinforcements. Eventhough the climax is a bit messy, its impressive. The different categories/versions of Iron Man are fun to watch (just as in the comics). As always, Tony is funny and there are moments where the humour with the Iron Man suit evokes laughter that dures for a while. The special effects are top notch and at times it makes one wonder how they had pulled it out with perfection. It clearly shows the hard work put by the actors and team to bring in this kind of result. Robert Downey is actualy the Iron Man in real life too - thats the impression you get. He is fantastic. The dialogues between him and Jarvis (Super Computer) are natural. Paltrow is gorgeous - she is 40 ? wow ! And so is Rebecca Hall. She lightens the screen merely by her presence. Guy Pearce was not used efficiently, and all he does after his impressive entry is try to be wicked and spit fire. Cheadle, as a part of the contract, just fills in the blank for the "unwanted scenes". The show stealer is Ben Kingsley. His get-up with the Avenger Tattoo on his neck is top. And as the movie forwards, his transformation is note worthy.
For those interested : Iron Man has matured in its presentation. The political message it carries are shocking. As Dark Knight stresses that to fight terror (evil) you become a terrorist (evil) (Thanks Nohlan) and here it shows what are the drawbacks of being a SUPER power. Eventhough Iron man 2 failed to evoke the core concept of Iron Man character - the cold war, here it magnifies the fact - you reap what you sow. Just wanted to add it for thoses who look into movies beyond "mindless entertainment".
There were certain things which did not go out well with me. You would feel the same if you are a comic fan just like me. Mandarin to Iron Man is like Ra's al Ghul to Batman. He is THE Super-Villan. But how Mandarin is showed in this movie is unacceptable [well for sake of it you cannot use a Super Villan character like this, as we fans come to see both the Super-Hero and the Super-Villan]. The unexplained or under developed characters roam about in this 3rd part also. As usual I had problems with the makeup just as in any American Movie, that the main characters are always clean and attractive even when everything around them are buring down or just after a "nuclear-or-atomic" kind of blasts. And Finally the 3D effect, its about minimal to none. The only effect is the weight of the 3D glasses over you nose and nothing else.
There could arise several questions like why Iron Man did not call in enforcements but waited and suddenly deceided to end the movie or the whole Extremis sub-plot or how could he be so ignortant after challenges his prime nemesis or Iron suits works on Potts and not on Rhodes or where did the Avengers go when US is completely under attack .. Nick where are you ? .. etc., These could be used to degrade the movie, but I have not intetion to do it. Catch the movie in nearby theatres and enjoy the journey with Iron Man [and stay till the end credits are over].

Chennaiyil oru naal - Film was fine till the first half. Prasanna's episode and the cinematic introduction of surya's part spoiled what should have become one of the best films. Other than that, a good film. Cheran was too good for the role. But what a bad recreation of the real incident. Tamil cinemavil mattum saathiyam. Even telugu films won't do this.
