I didnt find the jokes to be unfunny at all. Rather I found most of them to be quite natural at the same time very comical. Etho oru onnu rendu example edithikittu athu unfunny sonna, how can it mean for the entire movie. IMHO that particular dialougue from VRM was never meant to be funny. The scene leads to a howlarious situation where the arm break is thrown out of the car by Bhim. Also I feel comparing Kamal's other comedies with this will not work. PT, AvS might be better comedies ( I beg to differ on that as well), but MMKR is a better movie.

yes.. panchathanthiram and Avvai Shanmugis are much better comedies.. laugh riots.. MMKR is a hilarious drama .. MMKR is a much better movie .. its not a laugh riot type comedy movie..

MMKR ellam free flowing humour... venkiram Raju character dialogue paththi solraru.. andha character'eh mokkai joke adikkira character'than.. his interaction with pattani (badani?), neenga mattum kammi nauttyah.. ellam naama podhuva adikkira mokkai comedies.. very enjoyable...

For me its exactly the opposite. Cutting things short :

Avvai Shanmugi : The broad shoulders of Chachi did not go well with me, but I thouroughly enjoyed Delhi Ganesh / Manivannan and few Chachi's gimmicks and stunts.

MMMR : Quite a clever movie, and the homour was inside the script itself and thats something very hard to reproduce. I can't go ahead and say its unique as it has its own limitations (those which you have visibly noted). And I entriely agree with you on the title song - another exemple of sucessful unification of an idea, imagination, narration, lyrics, music, screen-writing & direction (and may be a few more that I would have missed)

Pandiyan , Avvai Shanmughi, Vishwanathan Iyer, Mudaliyar, Joseph, Sethurama Iyer and Basha >>>> Madhana Gopal, Avinashi, Kameshwaran, Thiripurasundari, Palakkad Mani Iyer. The story telling in AV was crystal clear and the characters been set with much defined boundaries. Casting of AS enhanced the movie watching experience. MMKR works in parts. But not as a full stretch movie.

To me, Raju and Michael characters - weak characters and took away completely the interest from the screen play.

Just that, I still enjoy the Thiripurasundari - "Thirupu" comedy ... LoL.

I felt Madan being an absolute nut in the movie but liked :
Raju (and his fireman dance + romance with Kushpoo)
Mickel & Santhana Barathi during the escape
And ofcoarse Kameswaran (even though the fish joke was pricky, its is still enjoyable)

MMKR actually stands testimony to this. All the characters from the 4 kamals to Varadhu kutty were beautifully fleshed out and not even one was out of sync. To think of plot points for each character and to excecute it across a 2 hour 47 minute film and to actually make it work on screen. Common Venki, it is a monumental effort and to dub it as just working in parts doesn't do justice at all. IMHO if there is a film that stamps Kamal's authority as a script writer, its MMKR. Especially in the second half, on one hand you have Madan plotting the swap with Raju for his covert plans and on the other, Avinashi sends in Kameshwaran to retrieve his cash from Madan’s safe. Now we get all the laughs from these two individuals from their own predicament of playing someone else. One does it for passion and money while the other is coerced and ends up being a reluctant performer. Therefore, they both become the foil in the grand scheme of things. Kundan mentions how your scene can fall flat if your foil is not working. And that’s why – ask anyone – Kameshwaran and Raju are the breakout characters of MMKR.

In a subtext laden film, here is something that has been spotted and revered by millions of fans – when Raju gets the confirmation that the guest house is free, Avinashi instructs the housekeeper to take them to the guest house. And then Raju asks him,” Indha Arumugam ogay dhane?! Dubakoorunga namba mudiyadhu, naa ootla illadha nerathla ootaye vadagai uttu sambadhichuvanga Anbe Vaa mathiri” And he says this to Nagesh, who played that exact character in Anbe Vaa! What follows is even funnier – “onnaku theriyadha vishayam kooda indha veeta pathi ennaku theriyun ya, oruthan 25 latcha rooba lautrukan!” Raju keeps trying to get ahead of his newly accepted role, that of Madhangopal, and ends up talking about Avinashi(Nagesh) to Avinashi himself! And says,”Seri onnanda solli enna prayojanam.” How do you think of something like that? Nagesh portrays that character, but is the subtext a coincidence or something that they really hit upon? Or that instance where Raju and Madan are standing in front of the mirror still reeling under the astonishment of bumping into each other, and ask Bheem,”Epdi enga double action?”, to which Bheem remarks,”Ennaku naalu theriyuthu boss“. That scene is a masterstroke
