THALAIVAA WILL COLLECT 150 CRORES - PRODUCER

Will Vijay’s extremely-anticipated Thalaivaa make it into the elite Rs 150 crore club? It’s producers certainly seem confident that the film will join films like Shah Rukh Khan’s Don-2 and My Name is Khan as far as collections go. According to reports, Kalaipuli S Dhanu had estimated the collection of his Vijay’s last film Thuppakki,at a little more than Rs 125 crores. But from what producer S Chandraprakash, Thalaivaa will certainly catapult the actor to Rs 150-crore club in the film industry. “Definitely, every project will exceed its conceived budget and Thalaivaa did as well. But it has more business than we expected. The television rights alone have been sold at a never- before amount for a Vijay flick. I’m sure Thalaivaa will collect more than Thuppakki,” said Chandraprakash.

Directed by Madarasapattinam director A L Vijay, Thalaivaa stars Vijay and Amala Paul in the lead roles and is set entirely in Mumbai. Vijay has had a pretty good run at the box-office over the last couple of years with all his films doing brisk business. After the moderate success of Kavalan, films like Velayudham, Nanban and Thuppakki were officially declared as box-office successes and the expectations for his upcoming projects have all but skyrocketed.

Chandraprakash rubbished the news that Thalaivaa (meaning Leader) projects Vijay as a politician to further the actor’s political future. “Thalaivaa has nothing to with politics. Even among a group of friends there will be a leader-like person. There is a leader in every classroom. So the title should be understood in that context,” he said. With the film due for clearance from the Censor Board in a week’s time from now, it is expected to hit screens before the third week of August. When asked about composer GV Prakash’s accusations against audio labels that the latter rip them of their due royalty,

Chandraprakash said, “If musicians demand it, they should get only the expenditure reimbursed and gain their salary from their royalty. Or, they should themselves sell the music under their own label. Only the Procuders’ Council should sort this issue out,” he concluded

The interesting and exclusive back-story of Vijay's Thalaivaa... ‬

Thalaivaa's producer, Chandraprakash Jain of Sri Mishri Production, is in the spotlight as his big budget Vijay - Vijay movie is getting ready to release in the 2nd week... of August, either on the 8th or 9th.

The film is yet to be censored but the team is hopeful of completing these formalities quickly and is expecting a clean U certificate. The producer spoke to our Behindwoods Correspondent and had many interesting details to share about the movie.

"We are coming back to production after a big break, after Rickshaw Mama and now with the support of the complete family, we will be producing more movies, with complete involvement and interest. Everything is God's will"

"Ilayathalapathy Vijay liked A.L.Vijay's script so much that he straightaway recommended this script to us and we were very happy to start the project right away. We frankly didn't expect to be doing such a big project so soon"

The total budget of Thalaivaa is rumored to be around 50 crores but the producer has already sold his movie for a higher price and has recovered his investment. 2000 plus screens would see a grand release of Thalaivaa.

Totally 120 days were spent filming the movie predominantly in Mumbai and Sydney. The songs shot in Sydney are expected to be a visual treat for the audience.

Initially titles such as Thanga Magan, Thalaivan and even Thalapathy were under consideration but finally the director and producer decided to use the title Thalaivaa and Ilayathalapathy Vijay was only too happy to approve it.

The producer says that there have been no compromises in the production of Thalaivaa even when it came to the number of junior artistes and dancers involved.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay recently happened to see a special screening of the movie and was thrilled with the output and thanked the producer wholeheartedly. He is ready to work on one more film for the same producer in the near future too.

On the whole, Chandraprakash Jain expects the movie to be a big mass break for both the Vijays.

I just dont hope this is like Thamizhan movie, not that it was a bad movie, but it would be like a deja vu
