Had the same feeling largely, but a couple of tiny scenes were cut i think, like for instance the scene where Raagini serves food to Vijay. I could only spot one. Overall, the movie ran for around 2:45 mins outside the ads and stuff.

Just got back from Thalaivaa and it ran for 3 Hours and 5 minutes as the censor certificate states.
I dint find anything new in this film. A very old theme with scenes and situations which we have been used to for at least 3 decades now. I find it really frustrating to see directors waste talents and especially the Mass gained by actors such as Vijay and Ajith to make their films blockbusters.
I, personally, don't care about copying/plagiarizing when I enter films like Thalaivaa but mindless film making should not be tolerated.
That subtle Gangs of Wasseypur homage was an extreme facepalm moment.

Sudish Kamath - Thalaivaa: Influenced, inspired or derived, no denying that Nirav does for Vijay what he did for Ajith in Billa! Such a good looking film.

Thalaivaa - Not as good as it could have been, but better than these films usually are.

AndhraBoxOffice:
Hyd: Although just a show now, # Thalaivaa running for 3rd week in Prasads is surprising. A non Rajini Tamil film rarely runs for a 2nd week.

From what I've seen so far, fans of this actor unlike fans of other actors (surya/ajith/...) very rarely provide constructive critical reviews. They pretty much endorse and lap up anything the actor provides giving him very little incentive to improvise in either extending range of emotions or picking original story lines or even evolving his own style during remakes.
