While I agree on the fact that the hindi film industry does produce its share of craps, I feel one should not overlook the efforts of the likes of an Anurag kashyap, Dibaker Banerjee and a Vikramaditya Motwane. Good films are being produced as well and they are being appreciated. So I feel there is nothing wrong with Kamal going for the hindi audience. What irks me is his constant trial by fire with bi-linguals.For example, Dasavathaaram never wanrranted a hindi dub. It had its settings in the south. There was no point wasting time in promoting its dubbed version. I believe his work would be much more appreciated if Kamal comes up with a true blue hindi movie rather than a bi lingual. In that regard VR should have never been made in Tamil. I know that a huge amount of money was invested on the film. But people are making better films at a lesser cost and not a very star studded cast. Why not Kamal ? Heck he doesn't even need to act. Just do the writing. That would suffice.

Kamal has always been a sheep in sheep's clothing. These were the exact words of my father when I asked him to describe Kamal for me.

I'm not fully sure that is the case. While its great to be top 3 in US/UK BO, Kamal is quite well known to the hindi audience. His old movies like ek-duje-ke-liyae, sadma, indian/hindustani, chachi-420 etc. put him firmly on people's minds as a class actor/entertainer. A lot of NI/Hindi folks thoroughly enjoyed Viswaroop with great reviews/reports coming in from as far as punjab, westbengal etc. Looks like the problem lies around distribution and theater procurement logistics, advertisement, marketing and so forth. I wanted to watch viswaroop myself but couldnt. It was not screened any place nearby where I live.
If Endiran featuring a south indian superstar can beat the crap out of top hindi film stars, Viswaroop could have also done it. Kamal himself mentioned in one of his interviews recently - I now realize that marketing is the most important thing in seeing success of a movie.
It just came a little late.

Kamal really needs someone to do the marketing and distribution for his movies at least in UK. The Hindi version of VR was never realeased in UK. The movie got a lot of publicity in the North Indian media. That was a real loss for the movie's box office performance in UK at least. With the INR touching 100 to a £1 at the moment, a properly marketed film would wonders at the BO provided it has the right ingredients. VR was such a film.

I don't think he is releasing the movie in hindi for his recognition..he is already a well recognized actor all over the world....but it is the movie which he wants to do the talking all over the world....why not think of releasing the movie in foreign languages....even if the movie is released in hindi...all the hindi speaking audience want to see only tamil version in theatres...this is my feeling and my opinion based on the tamil movies which were dubbed to hindi and released in theatres....I used to watch many hindi audience i.e. the elite audience coming to watch tamil version....
guess the hindi version could be targeted at the non-elite audience...

in reply to irir..
the movie faced unfortunate ban affecting his personal life. but he kept his cool which nobody under sky could have done at that burning point. hats off to him.
i cant agree to ur words "ellaarkittayum poi - 'bahuth nandri hai' - solla vendiya nilama"..seeing the unjustified action of tn govt, they all by themselves came to support him. he didnt go to anyone. pl understand it before attributing erroneous interpretation. i strongly object to this "ellaar kaallayum vizhaadha kuraiyaa vizhundhu" pl take it back. +1 for "except his naivete when it comes to dealing with people" and "ellaathaiyum naaney seivaennu othha kaalla nikkaradhu - not very practical IMO"
"Heck he doesn't even need to act" Arvind anne..ennachu! we are blessed to have such natural actor. thats his identity. i cant stand the day when he stops acting. dont think u meant that.

Nothing against Hindi. It is good to get released in Hindi and make good money (so that Kamal can make more and more movies).
But if he decides to do it, do it with well supported marketing. We should not expect a great run in Hindi with no promos in TV and other marketing strategies.
Robot, ABCD etc collected much more than Viswa.
Best of luck - dear Tamil Film Industry ! ! !
