Its funny that the journalist or the critics do not take up this issue but put questions why a tamil film does not get selected for national awards and film festivals.
How can it make it if a proper certificate is obtained but no theatre wants to release it. If this trend continues, then indie films journey would come to an end. Immediate attention is needed here.
Whats the relation between a film releasing in theatres and going in for film festivals? It can happen in any order imo. You have a lot of films going in for film fests and national awards before its actual theatrical release. A good example is Aadukalam. The movie was officially released in theatres in Pongal 2011, but contested in the National awards along with the other 2010 releases. You also have Aaranya kaandam as another example. And I don't think this is an 'indie' film at all.
