Navarathri ("Nine Nights") is a 1964 Tamil Drama film by A.P. Nagarajan. The film is well known for starring Sivaji Ganesan in nine distinct roles getting connected in nine nights within the film, thus the title. The record of playing most number of roles in one Tamil film was long held by Sivaji Ganesan until 2008 when it was broken by Kamal Hassan in Dasavathaaram.

enacting 9 roles with difference in characterization is different from acting in any number of get-ups without any impact on the viewer's mind!Nobody is anywhere nearer to NT in depicting multiple roles with distinction. That is why Navarathiri is construed as a classic even today. No comments about other actor's portrayals.

ஆணுக்குப் பெண் வேஷம் போட்டதுபோன்ற முகம், கனிவாகச்சிரிக்க நினைத்தாலும் கள்ளத்தனமான சிரிப்பே எட்டிப்பார்க்கும் முக அமைப்பு. எந்த வகையிலும் சேர்க்க முடியாத உடலமைப்பு, நளினமே தென்படாத செயற்கையான நடன அசைவுகள், பேச்சிலும் செயற்கைத்தனம் இப்படி எந்த வித வசீகரமும் இல்லாத ஒரு செயற்கை நடிகை.
தான் பங்கேற்ற 'திரும்பிப் பார்க்கிறேன்' நிகழ்ச்சியில் கூட வசந்தமாளிகை படம் பற்றிக் குறிப்பிட்டபோது நடிகர்த்திலகத்தைப் பற்றி எதுவும் சொல்லாமல், 'வசந்தமாளிகையே நான்தான் என்று எல்லோரும் சொல்வார்கள். அந்த அளவுக்கு நான் இல்லையேல் வசந்தமாளிகை இல்லை எனலாம்' என்கிற ரீதியில் பிதற்றியிருந்தார். ....
