When one of the leading distributor decided to enthrall genuine film lovers with a wonderful mythological epic KARNAN enacted by the God of Cinema, Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, many film fraternities had sarcastically, drastically passed crude comments on the fate of this distributor, Mr.Chokalingam.
Certain section who always envied Nadigar Thilagam since his dominance from 1952 until 1992 poo-pooed the distributor stating "He is gone forever"..."He is a fool to do this"...."Is he mad?" etc., etc.,
However, this mentally strong man never bothered about those comments and he already knew the power of Nadigar Thilagam in the Box Office continued in his efforts to bring this Old Wine in a New Bottle.
More than 4 years of his hard work and his younger day's dream came true on March 17. Yes, Karnan was released in about 72 theaters, almost double of its original release in 1964.
While, Karnan of Mahabaratha was a scape goat throughout his life, Our Nadigar Thilagam's Karnan too suffered FALSE PROPAGANDA since 1964 mentioning that it was a failure and the producer switched side post his Karnan venture. The FALSE PROPAGANDA from the Dravidian Party Members were aimed at One Goal. To bring disgrace to the son of soil, to convert majority of the producers who produced films with Nadigar Thilagam to their side and make them to do film with someone whom they supported ever since Nadigar Thilagam was made to quit their camp.
It is quite ridiculous and hilarious to note the comments by the other section quite often that Karnan produced by this producer which had completed 50 days in all centers of its release and completed 11 weeks in over 26 theaters and ran over 100 days in 4 theaters including the Asia's largest theater with mammoth 2538 seats Madurai Thangam as Failure, while the first film of the same producer after switching the camp could complete 100 days in 3 theaters in chennai only as "Super Hit" ! Strange and Weird is all we could say !
This false propaganda once again started floating, this time in the form of posters in road.
But, this time, the people of Tamilnadu who had become more intelligent over 40 years, decided to ignore the false, biased and enviable statements of the gentlemen who always involve in mud-slinging Nadigar Thilagam and give Karnan an overwhelming response across Tamilnadu once again.
People of Tamilnadu welcomed KARNAN in a RED CARPET. Amidst, so many new releases that happened week on week in multiplex theaters, KARNAN was the lone SUPER DUPER HIT of the year 2012.
Sathyam Witnessed a 152 Days run and Karnan was the only film for the whole year to complete 150 days. Similarly, another multiplex owned by Sathyam Group, ESCAPE RX witnessed 115 days run.
A classic film that was 48 years old and is much available for view in online, VCD, DVD and telecasted in private channels, had a the Distinction in the history of world cinema of running over 100 days in the re-release in couple of centers and completing 152 days.
Nadigar Thilagam once again proved his mettle in the BOX OFFICE even in Multiplex environment. His films is now the first choice for the distributors to think of re-releasing in Digital Format Restoration.
Every 25 Days of Karnan's completion in re-release, Chennai City Walls had Posters from certain section of his opponents. People of Tamilnadu, atleast Chennai could only Pity those foul players and those grief and Inferiority Complex struck envies.
Lest, the forgot that a day would come and their favorite hero's film too would be screened in Digital Format Restoration and what if it had the same boomerang effect?
Rather than abusing one out of agony, frustration, inferiority complex and envy why not they appreciate the efforts of a distributor who is trying his best to give a chance to the younger generation to understand our tradition, values etc., which are fading out faster in today's technology driven environment...!
சென்னை ராம் திரையரங்கில் 1964-ம் வருடம் வெளியான நவராத்திரி 100 நாட்கள் ஓடியதன் விளம்பர ஆதாரம். 10.02.1965 ம் ஆண்டு பிப்ரவரி 10-ந் தேதி தினத்தந்தியில் மற்றும் The Hindu தினசரிகளில் வந்த விளம்பரங்கள். பழைய கொம்பு உள்ள னை வைத்த சென்னையை தினத்தந்தி விளம்பரத்தில் காணலாம்.

இப்போது திடீரென்று ஏன் இந்த விளம்பரங்கள் என்று கேள்வி எழலாம். காரணம் உண்மையை உரக்க கூற.
அந்த உண்மை என்னவென்றால் வரலாற்றில் 1964-ம் ஆண்டு என்பது 1972-ம் ஆண்டிற்கு முன்பே வருவது என்பதை சுட்டிக்காட்டவே.
Thanks murali sir for proof of successful 100 days run of NT.s two movies in four theatres in city in the year of 1964, which was a unique and unbeatable record, incidently i had the pleasure of watching the two on the very first day first show at prabhath and maharani ,theatres. prior to this Alayamani ran 100 days in four theatres, Being the very first record created,

However, marketing strategy and meticulous planning for a rerelease besides the ever enduring value of Karnan as an epic with NT's immortal characterisation made the film a huge success and a trend setter for digital conversions of the succeeding movies of NT and remains the inspiration for the other actors' movies too for a possible rerelease! Compared to Karnan Vasantha Maaligai or Thiruvilayadal or Paasamalar could not reach the scales of success and collection in their rerelease for obvious reasons of marketing lacunae making Karnan the one and only one movie of such a rerelease value in the market and overwhelming response from the public due to its immortal storyline and the indelible characterization by NT. Now Chokkalingam sir tries his hands with the other camp. We are thankful to Chokkalingam sir for proving the box office potential of NT even now as an unbeatable one!
For some people, Whatever Nadigar Thilagam Film that celebrates a Jubiliant and Festive Run, they term it as only "Vetri"
For their favourite actors, even if the film had a very average or below average run, they term it as "Maaperum Vetri" ....
