Unlike his other 'green' movies like Satya, Mahanadhi etc. , I remember very little of kalaigyan other than the song 'endhan nenjil neengadha thenral needhana'. Maybe time to take another look at it!
One more to that list will be Paer-sollum-pillai with KR.Vijaya .. Dont remember that one at all.

Nope. Unfortunately his 'karruthu' movies like this, anbesivam etc. don't seem do good in BO. But anybody who've seen them will say they're good movies! This movie carried a neat message and the title and other songs in the movie say it all.

But MX hardly set the box office on fire did it. I for one liked the movie, but found it a little confounding to see the general audience rejecting it outright. So I guess Kamal would not want to have a repeat of that. And I don't see this being done in such a shoe string budget. At the end of the day it depends on as to how much of artistic expression you're ready to forsake for profit. Afterall cinema in one angle is just another business venture. Actually Kamal's quote in the Jaya TV Pattimandram on him wanting to make bengali (Ray) art films commercially viable comes to my mind.

When we say "dead low", does it include Kamal's salary too? I guess Kamal's salary is anywhere between 20 to 30 Cs.

another -ve the clichéd climax...helicopter fight etc., but the scene just before this climax..where kamal alaikalaichufies (couldn't get the English equivalent at this moment, sorry!!) the real murderer, the way he talks in kannada and finally the build up before he reveals his name...... whistle blowing performance
