WHY IS VIJAY-MURUGADOSS PROJECT THE MOST ANTICIPATED?
“I’m waiting”, he said and that’s what it required to draw all the attention. Thuppakki released and world knows the rest of the story.
Who could’ve pulled off an army captain, better than Vijay did in that film? He rocked it with his extravagance, style and charisma. But, the brain behind the movie, director AR Murugadoss deserves the major chunk of the credits.
Heroisms contribute the most to the success of a proper commercial pot boiler. Audiences love these moments. But overdoing it can backfire very badly.
AR Murugadoss knew the pulse well, used his hero to the fullest and created as many “moments” as possible that made the audiences burst with goose bumps.
Intelligent heroisms were the USP of Thuppakki, be it the climax or the 12 executions or the sleeper cells in the cupboard. For instance, when it comes to saving a sister, Vijay is the man and he is always at his best. But AR Murugadoss chose to be unorthodox about it and sends in a dog to terrorize the terrorists. The mongrel that belongs to Vijay… Wasn’t that enough for his fans to erupt like never before? Making the hero’s presence felt, even without actually showing him on screen, shows the director’s command over the craft. Together, Vijay and Murugadoss struck the right chord among the audience and more than anything, they became one of the most favored director-actor duos of the recent times that people love to see more often.
Now that they have come together for another innings, let’s talk about why this project is the most anticipated movie of 2014. AR Murugadoss has brought in some of the current favorites of the masses for this venture. To begin with, Samantha plays the female lead opposite Vijay for the first time in her career.
Her alluring looks aren’t the only factors for her massive fan base, but also her choice of projects. The actress’ last two outings in Tamil, Naan Ee and Neethane En Ponvasantham gave her meaty scopes and a lot of awards. So, judging her by the choices she has made till now, her role in this mega budget project shouldn’t be a typical commercial cinema heroine who makes glamorous appearances in the songs. That said, expect some surprises and meat in her character.
The other highlight of the movie is the change in the composer. AR Murugadoss pulls back from his long association with Harris Jayaraj and joins with the young and happening Anirudh. It would be interesting to see if the Ethir Neechal composer, who has continuously been delivering musical blockbusters mostly with up and coming actors, has it in him to handle a star as huge as Vijay.
Thirdly, the director generally puts in a lot of thought into the visuals of his films and he has always preferred to work with the masters of cinematography like Santosh Sivan, Ravi K Chandran and RD Rajasekar. But this time, he picks up a young and upcoming cinematographer, George C Williams, whose splendid compositions in Raja Rani were of course the talk of the town, and delegates him with the duty, which the legends of the stream have been doing all along for the director.
Now to the biggest curiosity element of the lot – Ilayathalapathy Vijay. When he is doing a film with the director, who gave him one of his biggest projects, the expectations are of course sky high. Most of all, Vijay is touted to be playing a dual role. If this is indeed true, the greatest crowd puller would be the answer to the most curious puzzle- the true face and the mask of Vijay, in the movie. After all, the secret of a good drama is also surprise.
In a nut shell, this project has experience, mastery, mass and youth working on it. If this project indeed gets released on Diwali 2014 as planned, expect fireworks that are explosive at its best and equally radiant.
