Academy Award winning composer, A. R. Rahman returns to Kuala Lumpur in April 2014.


Prolific film composer, music extraordinaire A.R. Rahman who won two Academy Awards for the score of ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ will be in Kuala Lumpur for a one-night-only ‘sound and light’ musical extravaganza titled ‘A.R.Rahman Infinite Love Live In Concert’ on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Stadium Merdeka at 7.30pm.

The event is supported by Malaysia Major Events, a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau, an agency under Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

“I haven't performed in Malaysia for quite a while now. I remember my experience in Kuala Lumpur fondly from the last time I came down way back in 2003 for the ‘Unity of Light’ concert and am very excited to perform my latest repertoire of songs to all my fans there,” said A.R. Rahman.

Organised by entertainment and events company, DML Live, the three-hour concert will see the multi-talented artist Andhis, a 78-piece ensemble, dazzle fans with a medley of popular songs he composed from popular Hindi and Tamil films including those from the soon to be released Bollywood drama film ‘Highway’.

A.R. Rahman will be performing these hits together with prominent singers and musicians from the Indian music scene such as Mohit Chauhan, Javed Ali, Mano, Chitra, Vijay Prakash, Neeti Mohan, Harshdeep Kaur and Shweta Pandit, fans can also look forward to a Qawwali segment with Sufi devotional music and an electronic dance music section.

“A.R Rahman has not performed in Malaysia for more than a decade. We are extremely excited to bring the ‘music maestro’ back for his Malaysian fans.

Described by Time magazine as “the world’s most prominent and prolific film composer”, his works are notable for integrating Eastern classical music with electronic music, world music genres and traditional orchestral arrangements.

He has won two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, 15 Filmfare Awards and 13 Filmfare Awards South in addition to numerous other awards and nominations. In 2009, Time placed Rahman in its list of ‘World’s Most Influential People’.

A.R. Rahman has sold more than 150 million copies of his work comprising of music from more than 100 film soundtracks and albums in half a dozen languages including landmark scores such as ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘Roja’, ‘Bombay’, ‘Lagaan’, ‘Delhi 6’, ‘Rockstar’ and most recently ‘Raanjhana’, ‘Maryan’ & ‘Highway’.
