GVM has nothing to prove. He is an excellent director and everyone knows it.

But all his recent films were duds so he is in a position trying to give a hit

A film being a dud or hit does not prove anything about the film maker. Its just the audience likeness in question. If you are talking about buisness, GVM need not worry about it either as he has floated his own production company.
Eventhough I am not quite favourable to GVM's way of telling us a story, he is indeed a remarkable film maker who by this time should have made the world cinema look at TFI. Hope he does that with this film.

But GVM target audience is A centre so his films becoming flops will certainly make the producers think twice

What I hear is...GVM wanted to complete the film in a stretch or in short-time that is reason he has taken lot of time to complete the scripting and come-up with bounded script.
Now as the shooting started I expect them to complete the shooting in less than 4 months but yeah lot depends of cast announcement. If cast is big as we saw in Mankatha & Arrambam then most likely that it tends to get pushed to next year or else it is for this year 100%
Even Vettaiyadu vilaiyaadu was completed in short-time I guess.
Waiting for Cast & Crew announcement and May 1st/April 14th first look

I guess it is Arri Alexa same used in Arrambam - any one know technical advantage that this camera poses.
