I'll be helping not just with the British comics section but providing information on Indian comic book heroes as well.
Sadly,I've had no responses from Rani,Lion/Muthu or Diamond so I have to base this Indian section on my own meagre collection!</font><hr></blockquote>Nice article. I haven't read it fully yet but it is interesting.
Regarding Indian heroes, AFAIK there were a few hat I remember from about 20 to 30 years ago. Indrajal Comics which used to publish the Phantom strips created a new charatcer called "Bahadur". It was OK but not that great.
Muthu comics experimented with a character called "Vaayu Vega Vasu" and it flopped too. Ther ewere some Muthu ripoffs called Ponni comics and vasu comics and they were abysmal.
We Indians love the foreign comics too much for any Indian venture to succeed.
BTW Terry, can you provide details behind the Muthu/Lion heroes such as :
Steel Claw
Barracuda/Frollo
Johnny Nero
?
I would love to read about them. I had posted this request to Vijayan at his site, but he does not seem to care much for his readers because he had never replied.

Hello there.
Yes,the lack of response from Mr Vijayan is very annoying but it seems to be a part of comics in general;only contact the readers if you have a sales pitch!
I'll look up some info for you in the new year on the characters you mentioned.
ANY images or info on old characters -even if they were awful- are welcome.
Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Terry

Terry:
Louis Crandell alias SteelClaw was renamed "Irumbukai Mayavi" in Muthu Comics, presumably because Muthu Comics editors thought Tamil readers may have a hard time reading the names in their original forms.
Similarly Codename:Barracuda was renamed as CID Lawrence and Frollo was renamed as Judo David.
Johnny Nero remained the same.
I would like to read more about their authors and synopsis/pictures of the stories.
The link that you had posted has a tiny bit of info about them:
