Excluding 30 +, how many Rajini and Kamal supporters have become so for actors talent ? These days 80% of young SS and Kamal supporters are like "Sachin ah eppdi yaarunu Sharapova ketkalam case thaan". They are afraid of talking against SS and Kamal Hassan because they dont know the actors background/career details to defend their points. They just say they are legends fan/follower thinking that their reputation will be high and they dont want to be in minority side. Same with Sachin/IR/ARR/Manirathnam. There are exceptions also but very few. They always say I am Vijay/Ajith/Dhanush/Simbu fan but I like Rajini and Kamal. They go for bulk booking First day shows just to say in office naa Kochadayaan paathutaen. FDFS irundha mariyaadhayae poiruchu.

Rajini and Kamal reached everywhere because of their yesteryear successes/fans which carried them to current generation. That's where Captain,Satyraj,karthich all failed.If script/content/quality/skills has a role in it, I dont find any one good reason for Rajini's young( Under 30) fan following. Nothing against Rajini skills but he has not portrayed them to current generation.

Vijay and Ajith have also earned that duo tag. If they are going to be in industry for next 10 years they will also become legends irrespective of content and quality of their work and easily gets the reception what Rajini and Kamal gets these days. Young generation will go for them and we oldies by then will go for their movies for the reason "namma kaalathu top actors da". I am sure they can be in industry for next 10 years considering the current fan following.

Rajini's box office records can be breached only after he retires and audience find an alternative for him.

Your logic of being afraid of talking against SS or Kamal even if applicable in TN does not explain all ...

Rajini's reach is very real. There's something people like in him ... I was pretty surprised a guy in his early 30's from up North (UP Hindi belt) telling me that he's a huge Rajini Fan. Going by your logic, Endiran should have tanked in the North - the land of Big B since people there have no necessity to patronize Rajini movies nor do they have any Mullum-Malarum or baasha (baasha was originally a Big B movie) background - but it was top draw in Bollywood giving all others big stars like sharuk or salman a run for their money. Even in the US, the hindi version had an awesome run. They all have a massive respect for our SS.

I'm yet to see a path breaking movie from either of them that is universally applauded by all regardless of their niche fan base. While I dont wish to argue any further about Ajith and Vijay wrt. to SS, I do think its a formidable goal for either to rival or replace SS.
