Trailer looks mighty impressive and Vikram looks pretty good for his age.
Mersalayitten is instant like. Ladio and Aila is also pretty good.
I had similar feeling when Kadal audio released, but all songs grew on me. We have to wait and see

Shankar & "I", a preview
It is indeed a marvelous promo-presentation by Shankar and team. The posters & trailer are mind blowing. Glad that Shankar is still exploring ‘the’ classics and literary works in his films, be it, at least in a song. After having inspired from Frankenstein, Dracula or Arsne Lupin, Shankar embarks into Fanstasy (Terriying) Romance in his new movie "I". The few poster revealed and the 60sec trailer gives us a clue from where he got his inspiration this time. Its not only the idea that is significant but its incorporation in a modern format is mere class.
"I" Movie title font
Even though the Tamil letter is quite prominent, all we could see is the curves getting larger. Whereas, the English alphabet does look like a vial, holding serum inside it. It also stands like an hour glass, where the liquid seems to be frozen at both ends. Interesting.
"I" Movie Poster
1. Beauty and the Beast
Jean Cocteau 1946 - La Belle et La Bte

This scene is a very crucial scene in this French Classic, where the beast offers a necklace to the Beauty. “I” movie has a similar poster where "I" Beast poses behind Amy who already is wearing 'that' necklace. This is the point where Beauty accepts to see the good side of the beast, that she does not even get bothered when Beast drinks the water from the fountain with his tongue. Excluding the Disney crap, Jean Cocteau adapted the 18th century Madame Beaumont's fantasy tale which narrates the story a bit similar to Stockholm syndrome (but its actually not), about a girl falling in love with her kidnapper. As this post is not about this classic film, I end with a note that there is more to this evergreen piece of work. Hats of to Shankar for gathering it and printing it for TFI audience.
2. Vikram out stretched hands
That’s the depiction of the Titan Atlas who is seen carrying the world, which is not just the world but the heaven and hell together. "I" movie seems to take much care to chesil its character that seems to be built with both ugliness and sweetness, but the fate curses "it" to carry both at the same time, just as the Titan’s Curse.
3. Beast on the Throne
"I" Beast is seen sitting over a throne, a bit like from "Game of Thrones". But the highlight of this poster is the 2 Two Dragons facing each other on top of the throne which symbolizes "one who is working toward Immortality". And there is another head just below, which makes 3 heads in total. In Greek Mythology there is a monster called Chimera with 3 heads, which has the head and furs of a lion, tail of a serpent and head of a goat from its back. Now, you can look again at the "I" Beast, you can see its goat horns, its lion face and the snake teeth. Shankar has steadily worked not only on the make up but also depicting them making this "I" Beast the one who is ruling on the throne of (evil) immortality.
4. Vikram holding his arms above his head.
That’s "looks-similar" poster to The Incredible Hulk (2008), where the tiny character in the center is getting itself into a larger mode. Again emphasising a “change-over”.
"I" Movie Trailer
Albert Capellani 1911 - Notre-Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame)
Adapted from Victor Hugo's 1831 novel of the same name

What Shankar has done is a fantastic homage to "Quasimodo carrying Esmeralda" scene. Going further, he has modernised it with a different background and I suppose a plot altogether different. Another shot where “deformed-state” Vikram seems to be stranded and extending his hand towards us ... well, again its not about Notre Dame de Paris, but how Shankar's adaptations are spell bounding that brings in our cultural requirements with it.
There is a bit more to it, if -
take a look at Charles Stanton Ogle in 1910 J.Searle Dawley’s Frankenstein film (an adaptation of Mary Shelley 1818 novel of the same name] :

- if Endhiran pursues the kidnap of Sana by Chitti during her marriage engagement with Dr.Vassegaran, which is actually the Monster taking the life of Victor Frankenstein's wife during their marriage day, we have to see Shankar's "I" to get what else he has assembled from this classic.
I wrote this up to state that great ideas go behind a creative work. Shankar sure is one of the film makers who tries to put some effort in film making. Hope his hard work gets the needed and appropriate recognition.
And Vikram, hats-off. Can't imagine how far and wise you have travelled. Always Kenny.
