The whole human race has descended from Africa! According to scientists, The Asian and African plates were joined around 400,000 yrs ago, due to tidal waves and Tsunamis alike separated the two plates!
This is just an "Assumption" by the scientists!

There was a book on Kumarikkandam - Kumari Nila Neetchi (குமரி நில நீட்சி) by Su.Ki.Jayakaran that traces the history of the debate. Talks about the history of the development of this point of view, the literary references and also oceanographic studies and concludes against the existence of KumarikaNdam. I found it quite convincing.
He goes to say, there was indeed a loss of lands - most notably the land connecting today's INdia and SL- as recorded in the poems that caused widespread destruction and migration. But the geographical extent has been overstated - there was one 'map' in the early 20th century that charted KumarikaNdam all the way to Australia!
Your are obviously referring to 49 naadukaL that were claimed to be part of the kumari kandam. PahRuLi, kavaadapuram - have numerous references which could not be explained away as imaginary places. And ofcourse, we cannot support wild claims either.
There have been widespread criticisms that by combining Lemuria and Kumarkandam - tamils do a disservice to their history, which have a point.
Looks like you are referring to this document:
https://indianfolklore.org/journals/...ewFile/178/183
In that document itself - in page 11/16 - it says "Coastline exposed 15,000 years ago" and that Map confoirms, actually, what i have posted in my previous post! It claims the landmass exposed at 15,000 BCE would be around 100 kms south/east and West of Kumari.
I have mentioned that there are beliefs that close to 300km of land must have been above the sea, south of kumari. 100km - 300km could probably be explained by more accurate experiments. This Landmass is enough to support dozens of "naadukaL" or princedoms.
Kumarikkandam, probably can be proved if we stuck to real geological and oceanographic experiments and not wishful thinking. But, We must also keep in mind that Madagascar has sangam sounding names such as Antananarivoo!
Even if Kumari kandam was not spread until australia, it definitely proves that the Tamil inam, Nation was at its peak, and that it had Cultural links with Most of the Southern hemishpere. And Dravidians and Australian aborigines are mutually related, we are Austaloids (or Australo Dravidoids if we had our way, as ooposed to say Caucasoids!).
Tamils do have links with Aborigines of Australia as the Aborigines might have "walked" the contiguous landmass all those millennia ago thru the Southern Tamil continent.
Hyperboles of some uninitiated Tamils doesnt qualify to be dismissed as "myth".

Yes I wanted to make the point about the about the size of the naadus being the size of the சிற்றரசுகள், as (I think) Jayakaran contends that it is the misunderstanding of naadus the size of today's nation that led to maps stretching to Aus/Madagascar.

I remember there was some debate on whether the aborigines 'walked' to Australia or were the earliest seafaring race that reached there. Whether they reached from Africa or from Kumarikandam. Hazy about the details, do you recall?

I dont exactly recall, but remember debates related to this have happened in the hub. Aravindan was in one of the debates?! am not sure..
The boomerang is iknown to have been handled in only 2 places in the world from ancient times, among Australian aborigines and thamizh people. There were some thraeds in Miscellaneous topics long years ago about this topic, about boomerangs, some Boat building mechanisms similar to us and the australina aborigines.
There was a hubber if i remember right "MutiziPutz" in the "Friendship" thread of Donna Iannopollo, who was from Newzealand who would not stop gushing about how thamizh and the australian/new zealand ancient tribes share so much of similarities, in terms of root words, ancient tools etc. Those were better times!

Today is the 10th Anniversary of the great Tsunaami (Aali Peralai - in Tamil) that destroyed the coastel areas of South & South-East Asian countries in 26th December 2004, did much damages and took heavy toll of human beings during that period. On this occasion this Thread is brought forward to give an insight study of Tsunami's that took place in ancient times that affected the coastel regions of Tamil Nadu of India in the ancient times.
