Papanasam all the way ....
'Papanasam (Papanaasam) Movie Review: Live Audience Response
Kamal Haasan and Gauthami starrer "Papanasam" (Also spelled as "Papanaasam") had its first premiere in Mumbai for selected guests. The Tamil movie will release on Thursday evening in some foreign countries and will hit the screens on Friday in India.
It is the Tamil remake of Malayalam blockbuster "Drishyam" starring Mohanlal and Meena. Jeetu Joseph, the creator of the original, has directed "Papanasam". Apart from Kamal Haasan and Gauthami, the real life couple, Niveda Thomas, Esther Anil, Kalabhavan Mani, Asha Sarath and others are in the cast.
"Papanasam" has Ghibran's music, Sujith Vaassudev's cinematography and Ayoob Khan's editing. "Drishyam" has been already made in Kannada and Telugu and both the versions have become hits. The Hindi version starring Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran is in the making. These remake attempts alone tells the strength of the film.
Reviews:
The movie has opened to positive reviews. It is undoubtedly the script of Jeetu Joseph which has been praised to the heavens. Kamal Haasan's emotional and natural acting is the biggest highlight of the Tamil movie. Below, we bring you the audience's response to the film:

First half of #Papanasam was very well done, stays loyal to Malayalam original, different only in flavour. And Kamal Haasan is rocking it.
Be moved to tears by Kamal Haasan in that scene with @ananthmahadevan towards end of #Papanasam Beats most Oscar winning actors with range.
How God is Kamal Haasan in #Papanasam A superb remake that is as good as the original! Bonafide thriller & Kamal Haasan showcase. #Mustwatch

#Papanasam Interval: Nicely done. Kamal Hassan rules this one with his dialect, along with some eclectic BGM by @GhibranOfficial.

Halfway through #Papanasam. Smartly setup family thriller which is authentic in its own ways. Kamal's dialect deserves a special mention.

Watched first show yesterday. No words to describe the movie. Kamal and director nailed it. Subtle and natural acting all the way. Gibran rocked. First time i heard people clap once the movie ends. Kudos to the team!

I have booked for Saturday night for entire family yesterday itself. After seeing all the reviews and late night Papanasam work, feeling very tired and sick. So have taken sick leave and going to FDFS in PVR.
In BO, it's improving very much. Until yesterday, in Bangalore Bookmyshow, it was in the 6th place for booking. Now, it's second next to Terminator.

Watched. Credit to Jeethu Joseph for bringing the same magic in Tamil too. More than being a faithful remake, the film has few additional elements and that worked well for me.
Kamal looked on par with Lal for 3/4th of the film but he takes over in the last quarter. When the director had said in an interview that the Tamil version will be more emotional, I was not very happy. But it works really well.
And it is good to see a promising young talent like Ghibran groomed by Kamal. His music is a huge plus.
On the negatives, I didn't find many. Like the original, the story unfolds in a leisurely pace. Also, I didn't like Gauthami. She was dull compared to Meena.
The show I watched was in the midnight. But almost 80% of the hall was filled with family audience, something that's rare for midnight shows.
